The fines would be collected through the income tax system.

They'll just garnish their wages, seize their property, etc. So the family that can't afford to purchase health insurance - at the average of more than $12,000 per year - will end up with a lien on their house, and no money in their bank account.

That is part of the prevention part of the government health insurance plan -- reducing stress helps people stay healthy. /sarc

I have Medicaid and Medicare because I am on disability, going to college and trying to get a job at the moment. All I have to say is that dealing with the government is a real hassle, and it there are stipulations. In the state of Ohio, you cannot collect Medicaid if you have $1500 or more in the bank last I was told. So, what the hell do I do if I happen to save up that much. I go out and blow it so that Medicaid foots the bill on my $800-plus prescription medications. The government is not smart enough to deal with health care issues, and my experiences with the government prove it. Furthermore, Medicaid has spend-downs, which means if you don’t spend several hundred dollars by making unnecessary appointments with doctors, they will not then pay for your medications either. Don’t get messed up with the government. It is run by a bunch of fools!
