Some things require perfect righteousness to have a relationship and where such is lacking, perfect justice demands the unrighteous to be immediately judged. The issue in this case is not the quality of the one observing the Ark, it is the immutable Holiness of God which doesn't allow anything to remove or taint that quality of Perfect Holiness.
Just contrast the reputed power of the ark with the history of Ethiopia. They haven’t benefited enough to be in legitimate possession of it, and they haven’t suffered enough to be in wrongful possession. I don’t think it could be casually misplaced. If it still (or ever, depending on your perspective) existed, we’d know where it was one way or the other.
Going by the attitude of most Democrats, the certificate is in the ark....
