My Uncle did some hunting for several weeks in the Soviet Union back in the late 70s. The had “guides” who took them where they were allowed to go. They also found that it was easier to rent soviet made crap rifles. Funny thing was that the guides carried Remmington hunting rifles as well as AK-47s.
He says they had a good trip aside from the obvious restrictions. Both got a red deer I think it was and one European Boar plus a Lynx.
