Thanks for the recommendation: it is now on my list to read. Sounds fascinating!
So many young people having had the benefit of government education in the last three decades don’t know much about true sacrifice, honor and valor. Many teens today don’t even know who Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Idi Amin, and all the rest are. But they know of Rosa Parks, MLK, and Allah.....
...add to that a year and a half in order to argue the necessity to go to war in the first place.
Bump links for later. Looks good though.

Your post is why I love this forum. Item 2 is something I didn’t know.
Many thanks.
There’s a great book on the battle called “The Shattered Sword”. It’s the Japanese view of the battle. It contains many details about Japanese carrier operations and the difference with American ops.
I’ll pick it up. Question though: Did the Japanese whitewash it like they did all the live vivisection and live bio-warfare research they did with Units 731 and Unit 100? With all the apologizing Germany has done for the Holocaust, Japan admits nothing about Unit 731.
They made Mengele look like a rank amateur. There are no words to describe what the Japanese did during WWII. McArthur gave the top brass of Unit 731 a pass in exchange for the data, and most went on to lead major universities and corporations in Japan.
We didn’t reverse engineer it to create the Hellcat. The planes look nothing alike.
Let Freedom Ring is something totally despised by the liberals.
Thanks for posting. I’ll check it out when I get home.
Betcha post number 4 named him already.
For later.

In this case, the Zero was essentialy that. Zero.
Zero armor to protect the pilot
Zero self sealing fuel tanks.
Zero capacity to take heavy caliber hits.
It did have a high speed to weight ratio, which enabled it's manuverability.
The Hellcat, as designed and built with this knowledge, had an armored tub for the pilot, as all U.S. aircraft, self sealing tanks, and a speed to weight ratio twice that of the Zero. It also had 6 .50 Browning mg's in the wings. It was faster, as manueverable, better at all altitudes.
Get the TV versions of the two books with Robert Mitchum. Awesome.
Yes, didn’t see it....worth re-posting though.
Click on pic for past Navair pings.
Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.
Ensign Gay died a few years back, here in Houston.
