A lib to be replaced by a lib.

Thank God!. Sure, Obama will replace him with another liberal, but Souter has been a travishamockery of a Judge to quote that Bud Light ad of a while back. Bush 41 really screwed the pooch there. If he had gotten that pick right, Roe v Wade would have been gone for the last 20 years. Affirmative Action would have been history. All those gitmo decisions would have been the other way. I could go on.

And what gratitude did Souter show Bush 41 or the Bush family? None. He deliberately held out until Bush was gone and then got out of town as fast as he could. If McCain had won he’d have stayed until 2013.

This by the way was the number one reason to vote for McCain. Not that with only 40 Republicans we’d have gotten another Roberts or Alito, but we’d have gotten another Kennedy instead of another Ginsburg which is what we’ll end up with.

Thankfully this doesn’t change the balance of the Court at all.

I think Stevens holds out another year or two to break Holmes’ olderst justice records and Bill Douglas’ longest tenure record then he bails. Ginsburg is in supposedly frail health.

The key is to hope nothing happens to Scalia or Kennedy. They both turn 73 this year and if one of them goes, we are completely finished on the Court for the next 30 years.

More likely a lib to be replaced by a 35-year-old ultra-leftist, anti-American, pro-terrorist, radical, Communist, rabidly homosexual, Christophobic, hate-filled moron with a tissue-thin resume and excellent health that will pollute the High Court for the next 50 years.

We are assured to get a real winner. Maybe Nasty Pelosi? Dingy Harry? Rhambo? Sebellius? So many opportunities out there....

They should be fine for another 15, heck maybe 20 years providing they take good care of themselves and a little luck. (knock on wood)

He will more than likely pick Eric Holder.

This is very bad news, mathematically speaking.

And with a 60 vote majority in the Senate (assuming Franken gets seated) there is nothing the GOP can do about it.

Glad some of us saw the bigger picture and didn't vote for McCain. ...oh wait...that's right...he would have been much worse than this.

Yep, this is what the RATS were waiting for. That’s why Spectraitor had to the the Chair of the Senate Judiciary. The pieces are falling into place for the RATS.

What’s BREAKING about this? You’re the 4th person who posted on this story. Fifth, if you count the guy who posted a story two weeks ago that said Souter was the only Justice who didn’t have clerks for the upcoming term.

This seems to have been in the works for longer than you think, but it is pretty coincidental that he's announce it two days after the Republicans lost the filibuster.

I’ll predict right now that Obama’s biggest obstacle to an uber-liberal SCOTUS appointment will be a number of Democrats, not Republicans.

In any case, this should be highly entertaining to see if Team Obama can bet a SCOTUS nominee any better than they can Cabinet appointees...

The Republican party better start planting fake libs in the democratic party so they to can recommend a planted judge who pretended to be liberal to BO for appointment to SCOTUS and that judge can then shock BO and the dems when he reveals that he’s really a conservative.

America went through the ice back in November. Now we’re just swimming back under the remaining ice sheet to nullify all chance of rescue. If you have children, prepare them to emigrate should they wish to avoid poverty and tyranny in adulthood. The 0 regime is the last nail in America’s coffin. It be ova, baby.
