".....decreases in the extent of summer sea ice.... ~ the killer year was summer of 2007. Summer of 2008 was second greatest, ergo, there was a decline in the decrease of the extent, ergo an increase (even if for one year) in the extent of summer sea ice.
Summer of 2009 hasn't happened yet, so the reference is 2008, and the year before that.

The dramatic decreases in the extent of summer sea ice, increased coastal erosion, melting of permafrost, decrease in alpine glaciers and overall ecosystem changes are very real to us.
So you believe Sarah Palin was just talking about a year or two and not an overall trend?
