LOL. Our former priest is now almost two weeks in Basic -- I was very surprised to receive a couple of e-mails from him this week.
But as he points out, this is Basic for middle-aged men with professional degrees who are going to become officers -- in his case a Navy Chaplain. Unless he forms a choir on his ship his PhD in Choral Music isn't going to get much use.
My son’s great uncle was a Catholic chaplain in the navy, back in the Viet Nam years. He sent me beautiful silk fabrics, and when he was tied up at San Diego, my son (2) and I dined in the Officer’s Mess on board ship.
He passed on about 20 years ago, but I would love to know about his life. I don’t know where to even start looking...
