Actually the tulips have come out and irises are beginning to bloom.

The garden is in the ground but it is still cold. About 55 degrees today.

Just exactly like you described above.

Some animal, (racoons?) have been eating the tops of my tulips. So I planted a bunch of annuals to offer them a balanced diet.

Deer are eating our roses. LoM thinks we should augment our diet. *\;-)
