See post #26 for the latest menace we have to keep an eye on now. A "new" resolution has been introduced in the House, HR1444, containing the original language from HR1388 about determining whether community service can be made mandatory. Apparently the language about mandatory service isn't in HR1388 as passed, at least as far as anyone seems able to determine. The new HR14444 has been referred to Committee, so it may or may not ever make it to the floor. We shall see.
Can anyone direct me to a place to brush up on how bills move through Congress? I’m trying to follow this HR1388, the Senate bill, and I’m having a hard time because I don’t remember how this all works. (Bills starting on one side, passed by the other, renaming, etc.) It’s been a long time since high school government class! The articles I’ve found on Google are really long and detailed, I would just like a quick and simple version to brush up on the basics.
For instance, this article says that HR 1388 passed the Senate, but I thought that bill was renamed S277 (S277 had quite a few things different than the original HR1388). But when you look it up it is still referred to as HR1388. So now I’m wondering is HR1388 the same as the Senate S277 bill, or more like the original one from the House? I want to be able to know what I’m talking about when emailing friends about this bill. Thanks so much for any help!
