Maybe that's why Iran's Arab neighbors are rushing to gain a nuclear capability of their own
Bingo.
Why do you think Saudi, UAE, and other Gulf states have been on military buying sprees? They're worried about Iran. Why is the Bahraini Navy participating in drills with the US, French, and British Navy? They're worried about Iran. Why did the Saudis arrest some Shi'a cleric last week? He was spreading pro-Iranian sentiment. Why do the Arab states look coldly on Syria? Assad is Iran's ally. The Arabs are dead scared of Iran with nukes. The Arab-Persian rivalry and the Sunni-Shi'a conflict draw the lines in the sand that split the Middle East into camps.

The race has been there for a while. They are just 65 or so years behind.

They are worried Iran will cross the nuclear threshold first, as they should be. The nuclear genie has been out of the bottle for decades, it’s only a matter of time before every third world dictator has the capability to hold us hostage. Promises to disarm ourselves will only encourage them.
