I hadnt consider the thermal coefficient of brass

Not so much it's thermal coefficient, as it's heat capacity. It stores a lot of heat energy, which gets thrown down your shirt, or that of the shooter two spots down the line, when the case is ejected. :)

Never ceases to amaze me how that wayward casing can find its way to a lodging point directly between my safety glasses and my bare cheek.
