“... time warp somewhere around 1971...”

My high school years were 1966 - 1970 and I understand what you mean about Barnes and Noble.

But if you really a good trip with Simon and Mr. Peabody in “The Way-Back Machine” try spending a weekend in Asheville, North Carolina.

My family and I used to spend some time in and around Asheville on summer vacations in the mountains, and we thought it was a very nice town at the time. We ate at the Grove Park Inn whenever the timing was right, and the outdoor terrace overlooking the town was a pleasantly cool spot for a summer lunch. A tour of the Biltmore House is a must for a first time visitor to the area, but once you've been there it's not worth the cost to see it again IMHO.

Now I live only about 100 miles from Asheville, but we haven't been there for quite a few years. We have discussed a possible visit to Asheville with a couple who have spent time there recently. However, they say that a considerable portion of the downtown has become a major hangout for persons of indeterminate gender, if you get my drift. That's not my idea of an enjoyable destination for a pleasure trip, or any other kind of trip for that matter. And that's really too bad, Asheville was a very nice little city 25 years ago.
