John’s voters are mostly democrats. They always have been.

What numbers does he normally win by in the general? It must be a wide margin.

D-1 we have probably passed some of the strictest anti-illegal legislation in the country and we are enforcing it (or as much as we were able to with Nappy as governor and a BIG lib as AG). They hated it, but we ARE enforcing it. JD's stance on illegals would help him with most Arizonans, but the Abramoff thing is too complex and people tend to just turn away. They don't want scandal.

I like JD really well, he's a good solid man and he'd be a great senator, but like I said earlier, we are being over run by liberals lately and the higher the unemployment goes in CA the more we are inundated.

LOL, I remember once McCain bragging that he won by 70%, what he didn't say was that he was running unopposed.

This used to be a solid republican state.

Do you honestly feel that you are getting leftist Republicans though? You have closed primaries don’t you. Do you think McCain would beat back a primary challenge in this climate?

Yep. Grown steadily more weary with them ever since they threw away our generational chance to reform America and shut out leftist interference. As a result, they lost a good portion of conservatives and the @ss kicking they got in the next election cycle showed that. Their cry since then has been to become more moderate whilst the left is masquerading under the guise of becoming more conservative.

Finally, after eight years of W wasting opportunities to recover a conservative momentum, the pubbies fielded McCain which automatically condemned America to the ascendancy of the left with a sweep of two branches of gub’mint and, eventually, the third - SCOTUS. As a final insult, these morons have been dissing Sarah Palin - the only man among them - ever since the election. Fact is, the pubbies would've lost by cataclysmic proportions if Sarah hadn't been the draw in the McCain/Dole/Ford/idiot ticket.

AFAIC, I will vote principle from now on. If the pubbies reform and decide to implement at every chance the platform conservatives have given them, fine. If not, I'll vote for certain losers who at least have the guts and integrity to fight for their ideals even if it means certain defeat.

That is funny. Back in the Goldwater years, you folks probably slaughtered the opposition. This seems to bear that out.

3rd party is an utterly foolish idea by those whose have more emotions than brains. If conservatives cannot control the Republican Party then they certainly don’t deserve to control the entire country.

Rule No. 1 - you have to have the votes to win. Just beating up on Republican leadership is not enough. Our ideas have to prevail to convince enough voters to vote for conservative Republicans. There are RINO Republicans in Congress because there are lots of RINO voters. These RINO voters can be turned out by better leadership and education about what is go. There is no magic answer other than to rebuild the party from within one brick at a time in the primaries IMO.

Our state legislature is good, it's the nationals that we have to worry about. We have great people like John Shadegg who is really a star. I don't think we're getting leftist republcans, we're getting leftist democrats (used to be even our democrats were fairly conservative).

Arizona has always been more of a libertarian republican state. Live and let live but keep out of my life type.

No, actually we had democrat and republican governors, but you could barely tell the difference. Old time Arizonans wouldn’t tolerate anyone who stuck their noses into our business and nobody liked taxes.

Email your Congressman, then email them again, and again and again.

What we have is democrats registering as republicans to vote in our primary since we so seldom have a contested senate race.

Well, I can empathize with the onslaught of liberals. Where you folks need to keep on your toes, is the local community boards and things. They’ll strip your community colleges and universities bare. They’ll clog your city councils. We get these dingbats that want the city to sign on to all sorts of stuff that is almost laughable.

Your state should institute a once a year registration limit.

That would put an end to the crossover in the primaries.

Your RP should drive that home. Get the guy you’ve been mentioning to drive that through.

If you can’t control your primaries, then you’re state is beyond help right now.

One possible alternative would be to place a Conservative on the Democrat ballot. When the Dems switch registrations, elect him to their ticket. That’ll put a speed bump on their highway.

No they aren't and never have been. He started in John Rhodes old seat when Rhodes retired. He then picked up Goldwater's seat when he retired. In the outlying counties he gets Pinto Democrat votes but those almost always turn for the Republican in State or Federal offices.

I know how he started, I’ve lived here my whole life, that’s not how he’s stayed there, especially since he became a “maverick”. He would have been voted out long ago if it wasn’t for democrats.

It wouldn't matter in the least. They don't even bother to re-register unless there is someone in THEIR primary who is running against and that hardly happens.
