If Obama won 53% of the vote, then he did NOT win 47% of the vote. Some folks may not have voted for McCain, but you’re kinda missing the point if you look at the numbers in that way.
Add the 1.4 percent differential to the column of those who didn’t vote for Obama and you get 52.9 to 47.1 percent...only 5.8 per cent. Then there were millions who didn’t vote who could have. The difference is about 7 million folks out of nearly 120 million votes cast. Not a huge difference interms of numbers of votes cast or the total population at large(about 4.3 percent...figure 99
