One thing I forgot to mention is that they especially don't want us to be a country. Its okay for the Chinese, the mexicans, the palestinians, the saudis, the Poles, the Czechs and everyone else to be proud of their country and heretige BUT NOT AMERICA! They say it is racist and that we are supposed to be a melting pot. That just sickens me.

> LENNON: “What would you suggest I do? Give everything away and walk the streets?

Why...yes! Typical of these loony libs. Just like lefty actors who promised to leave the U.S. once W won (twice), they are still here. Anybody hear of the new lib mantra: “do as I say, not as I do.”?

loved most of his beatle stuff

thought he was a jerk later on, mostly during his solo/Ono period.

I always had a love hate relationship with him. isn't it good, Norwegian wood.

I have always thought that Yoko walking away without a scratch was proof positive that life is not fair.

I don’t know why anyone would look up to him.

John Lennon was so overrated as a musician. Neither his guitar work or songs have lasted for me. He treated his first wife and son poorly as well, but many fine musicians behaved badly with respect to their families.

John Lennon was a self-centered elitist like many of his generation. All YOU need is love. Me, I’ll sit here rolling in the dough.

And his songs are crap in the first degree. That is if you’re not stoned out of your gourd. Then anything is music.

Just as long as Iron Maiden would have still been around.

After that, I just don’t care about Lennon.

Or maybe she thought death was a good career move for John, if you know what I mean.

In Lennon’s defense: in his last years, he did extricate his head somewhat from his posterior. When asked for the September 29th, 1980 edition of Newsweek about his earlier political radicalism, Lennon said:

“That radicalism was phony, really, because it was out of guilt. I’d always felt guilty that I made money, so I had to give it away or lose it. I don’t mean I was a hypocrite. When I believe, I believe right down to the roots. But being a chameleon, I became whoever I was with. When you stop and think, what the hell was I doing fighting the American Government just because Jerry Rubin couldn’t get what he always wanted - a nice cushy job.”

So Lennon did manage in the end to grow up, at least a little.

‘his songs are crap..”
ok, you don’t like him personally
But that is, without a doubt, the dopiest statement I have ever seen on FR.

Actually, whether or not we like to admit it, Lennon and the rest of the Beatles probably made a bigger impression on the world than any politician of the time. As to whethewr or not the impression was a good one could be the subject of another thread.

I don’t remember which of his albums it was but I remember a review of it that contained the following line: “Sometimes political messages don’t work, even in the hands of John Lennon. Or, should we say, especially in the hands of John Lennon.”

As songwriters, he and Paul were better together than apart.
