The Conservative Snoot Brigade Turns on Palin . . . and the Base

It’s erupted. Sensing losses of historic proportions, conservatives seem not to be waiting for the official results to start dividing into camps. And while Sarah Palin is the nominal reason for the schism, you can see by digging a little deeper that she’s only a symbol.

A certain faction of the conservative punditry has now gone pedal-to-the-metal in its disdain for Palin. The Wall Street Journal’s Peggy Noonan – who was the first of the right’s chattering classes to turn full-bore against President Bush – last week joined the likes of Kathleen Parker, Heather MacDonald, David Brooks and a host of others in excoriating Palin for little more than the manner in which she expresses herself.

An interesting complaint, this. If a vice president’s (or president’s) job is to express oneself eloquently, by all means vote for Barack Obama. Palin’s substantive appeal arises from the manner in which she has governed Alaska.

You know, I agree with you. I am so sick and tired of what I call the East Coast/NYC view. Recently, I have been watching the Law & Order reruns. I like the story but the one thing that sticks out is that NYC I know better than the locals attitude. That the people are not to be trusted to run their lives. I see it on some FNC programs - specifically O’Reilly but I even catch it from Brit Hume.

The only purge that needs to happen is US (conservatives) purging ourselves from this f-—ed up POS socialist society.

We have NO WHERE left to go. This country WAS the last hope of Freedom and liberty. Now those words are meaningless for so many. Some are even embarrassed to say or write them.

We are either going to submit ourselves to endless slavery to the state or we are going to carve ourselves out a home and reestablish the principles of individual freedom and liberty.

So? Anyone know any military folk who took their oath to defend the constitution seriously? and are willing to fulfill it?

Anyone got a state or two in mind? Texas? Oklahoma? Alabama?

Publius, I’m with you. I keep thinking of Andrew Jackson, and for that matter, Abe Lincoln and all the other back-woods folks. Give me common sense, straight-thinking, tangle-tongued people who know how to get the work done, and I will vote for them over a snotty Harvard brat any day.

The Jacksonian Tradition

"His reason was like lightning and his action like a thunderbolt"; Amos Kendall,(first Post Master General)

Prominent Jacksonians: Ronald Reagan, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, Fred Thompson, Oliver North, Pat Buchanan, Zell Miller

He keeps reminding his viewers that "I'm looking out for the folks". When he says that...I want to puke.

There is a growing number of “conservative” pundits who’ve made themselves personae non gratis inside the conservative movement. They’ll be on the outside looking in. My list of writers who I’ll never read again (or start reading) includes Noonan, C. Buckley, Kathleen Parker, Brooks, and MacDonald. We’ll see if the list grows longer.
