Republicans have jumped all over Barack Obama's statement in a George Stephanopoulos on "This Week," on ABC on September 7.
"Let's not play games," he said. "What I was suggesting -- you're absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith."
The Main Stream Media have largely ignored the statement because members of the MSM believe it is there job as Good Democrats to make Barack Obama look good.
Even the Republican oriented Washington Times criticized Republican bloggers for their treatment of the subject. "But illustrating the difficulty of preventing false rumors about his faith from spreading, anti-Obama groups within one hour of the interview had sliced it out of context and were sending it around via email. They also were blogging about it."
Israelinsider is more critical suggesting that Obama really meant what he said. "In one of the most astonishing gaffes in American political history, in a national televised interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulus, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Hussein Obama referred to 'my muslim faith,' confirming what researchers and political opponents have been claiming. While Stephanopoulus several seconds later tried to correct him, saying 'Christian faith,' it was too late. The damage was done. Obama clearly did not mean his Christian faith, since he was admitting that 'John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith.' The term 'Christian faith' would not make sense in that context."
Both the Times and Israelinsider may be ignoring a more important issue than whether or not Obama is a Muslim. The MSM have been claiming that Obama is supposed to be more intelligent than other politicians. If that were the case, he would accidentally say "my Muslim faith". If he did make a misstatement it indicates he isn't much different from President Jerry Ford who made a misstatement about Poland and Eastern Europe in the 1976 presidential debate.
Obama might sound intelligent reciting a prepared speech, but the real test of intelligence is the ability to think and talk at the same time without making simple mistakes. If President George Bush had made a similar misstatement, the MSM would make it a headline or a soundbite. Comedians would have made jokes about it. If members of the MSM want to be considered as real journalists they need to report the mistakes made by all politicians, not just the ones in the other political party. Obama only seems to be smarter than Bush because the MSM are protecting him from his mistakes.
The following transcript is from Israelinsider to show the context of the Obama's statement. . STEPHANOPOULOS: You mention your Christian faith. Yesterday you took off after the Republicans for suggesting you have Muslim connections. Just a few minutes ago, Rick Davis, John McCain's campaign manager, said they've never done that. This is a false and cynical attempt to play victim. OBAMA: You know what? I mean, these guys love to throw a rock and hide their hand. The...
STEPHANOPOULOS: The McCain campaign has never suggested you have Muslim connections.
OBAMA: No, no, no. But the -- I don't think that when you look at what is being promulgated on Fox News, let's say, and Republican commentators who are closely allied to these folks--
STEPHANOPOULOS: But John McCain said that's wrong.
OBAMA: Now, well, look. Listen. You and I both know that the minute that Governor Palin was forced to talk about her daughter, I immediately said that's off limits. And--
STEPHANOPOULOS: But John McCain said the same thing about questioning your faith.
OBAMA: And what was the first thing the McCain?s campaign went out and did? They said, look, these liberal blogs that support Obama are out there attacking Governor Palin.
Let's not play games. What I was suggesting -- you're absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith. And you're absolutely right that that has not come--
STEPHANOPOULOS: Christian faith.
OBAMA: -- my Christian faith.
I saw a comment, I think it was on the Israel site that someone said there are 57 Muslim states which Obama confused with the number of American states.
“Obama only seems to be smarter than Bush because the MSM are protecting him from his mistakes”
This is absolutely 100% true. If they wrote in every uh, um and stammer, he wouldn’t look like the great orator they make him out to be. He is just a good reader.
What if Stephie had not corrected him?
...days upon days of whining, "What I meant to say...."
Excellent analysis! Thanks for sharing....
Actually, I would paraphrase it better this way: "the statement reveals that Obama feels that he 'IS' a Muslim".
I actually think Obama is a pagan who worships himself. If he were really a Muslim it would be a step up. But I like to tweak my liberal colleagues by calling him a Stealth Muslim anyway. It’s fun to watch their heads explode in sputtering outrage.
can we spell hypocrite? “The One” slams republican bloggers and media for “smears” on him, but yet, he refuses to “slam”: daily kos, his own website blogs, liberal bloggers, huffington post, national enquirer for the smears on Palin, her children, her husband, mccain and her pastor.
Barry get real brother! I will say that anyone can have a Freudian slip, messiahs included. The truth is that Barry’s not kow-towing 5 times a day to Mecca (though possibly to Chicago) and wishing for Allah to strike all infidels, but he has been strongly exposed to Islam (more than just casually going to some school in Indonesia). He definitely has strong Muslim sympathies—not so much for the faith of Islam in and of itself, but because from the perspective of his socialist soul Muslims are among the persecuted and downtrodden (be it in this country or elsewhere)— another constituency to vote for you Barry eh?
Without a teleprompter the dude is lost and makes all kinds of gaffes. Stephanopoulos had him kind of nervous...so nervous that he had to remind him (you mean Christian) that Mecca’s not the way his weather vane is supposed to be turning. But probably better to have a weather vane that consistently points to Mecca than to have one that blows all over the place.
I agree with the worshiping of himself. I think that he actually believes all the hype that “he is the one we have all been waiting for”.
You might be right. that’s the problem with a lot of politicians who think they are “gods”.
There is no doubt that HUSSEIN was born muslim and practiced as a child/teen.
Yet his campaign and the his marxist propagandists in the press state categorically that HE WAS NEVER A MUSLIM AND HAS NEVER PRAYED IN A MOSQUE.
Never has a campaign uttered such an outlandish lie.
He is the biggest liar ever to run for President.
It's mind boggling.
As with any lie, continually repeating it is tough, especially when under pressure - pressure he is uncomfortable with, since he has been shielded by the media, and by his lack of experience. Quite often, when under pressure, the truth comes out, which it did in this case.
His colleagues abroad have made no secret of supporting and illegally sending money to, "their muslim brother".
Why would McCain even have to say something about his “Christian faith”. Obammy would only say something about if it he meant to say Muslim faith. It is obvious to me that he is Muslim, any idiot can see that. With a little more pressure put on this idiot, he will fall apart. He is a lot different now than when he was dancing with Ellen. Gag me.

As I recall it, he said he'd been to 57 states ... with one left to go.
Did he subconsciously reveal his intent to make the United States the 58th state of the Organization of the Islamic Conference?
