If Ford had won, we wouldn’t have had Carter. Afghanistan probably wouldn’t have been overrun by the Soviet Union, and Iran wouldn’t have turned from an ally to the biggest threat to the world.
Consequently, we probably wouldn’t have ever made friends with Hussein, Iraq never would have become powerful enough to invade their neighbors, and we may have avoided two middle east wars.
And we don’t know that the Republican party wouldn’t have been just as strong in opposing the Soviet Empire.
We may not have had Reagan. But the world might still have been a better place.
FWIW, Ford believed in all that “Detente” crap.
Reagan did not.
