Mubarak is by far the closest thing we will see to an ally in Egypt in my lifetime. I can only guess at the amount of proxy interrogation we have done in egypt. I open ask you to offer suggestions, not including WW3 and mass use of NBC weapons on the middle east, of what would be a better situation vis a vis Egypt for the US?

If Democracy (like bush & co want for the world except some parts) was held in egypt today, what kind of govt do you think we would get?

I know that he is the best it is going to get. But that does not mean the world should sit silently about the persecution of Christians. If there were true free elections there. The pro-Sharia Muslim Brotherhood would easily win and they already control almost 25% of the Egyptian govt there.

All the money we give them, just like Pakistan will turn out to be a waste. Eventually the Muslim Brotherhood will take over Egypt.

Mubarak is an ally of mutual convenience, but he will never be a friend. I will never forget him personally lying to our ambassador, telling him that the Achilles Lauro hijackers had already left Egypt when we knew the plane was still on the gound (the same one Ollie North arranged to have intercepted by USAF jets). He’s a damned double-dealing low-life bastard, but we need him and he certainly needs us.
