Senator Feinstein's Oil Illogic
07/17/2008 | Simple Guy

I heard Dianne Feinstein, Democrat Senator from California, on the radio this week touting the fact that increasing the US supply of oil was not the answer. The answer to high gas prices is to explore alternative energy sources.

I thought about that comment then put it together with one of the Democrat’s favorite excuses given for not expanding oil drilling in America: “It would take 10 years to see any of that oil and wouldn’t affect the price of gas in the near future.” That argument has a bucket-full of holes in it, which have already been addressed by the wise; but taken with Senator Feinstein’s comment, it brings to light again the amazing illogic, inconsistency, and lack of common sense so often seen in the non-Conservative way of thinking. If one of the non-drilling arguments given is the fact that it’s going to take 10 years for us to see any significant effect from expanding our oil exploration (which, again, is totally unfounded), how does it make sense to say that alternative energy sources is the answer? How many years is it going to take to see any significant effect from exploring these alternative sources? Could it be that Senator Feinstein and her companions are more concerned about cowing to the radical environmentalists than they are about solving this problem? Could they be more interested in government control than in true solutions?

Are most Conservatives in favor of exploring alternative sources? Sure we are. Most of us are also in favor of conserving when we can and taking good care of the environment. But there’s a huge problem now and we have an immediate solution to that problem – let’s go get it.

To most Democrats, “alternative energy sources” means walk the twenty miles to work instead.

uh..duh...

drilling will take longer than searching for alternative fuels?

some of the latter are pie-in-the-sky, and will never compete against fossil fuels.

The answer to high gas prices is to explore alternative energy sources.

How long before the sane and rational voters - not the enviro-whackoes - wake up to the idiocy of this statement? Oil is plentiful and cheap - all you have to go is go find it and exploit it. The Dems meanwhile want everyone riding bicycles or mass transit except for Congress-critters with taxpayer-provided transportation at their disposal, while pie-in-the-sky alternatives are pursued. And we've all seen how well the ethanol project has worked in higher food prices....

The idiot Feinstein has never had an intelligent, original thought in her life - she is purely a mouthpiece for the most radical fringe of the left, reflexively parroting their bilge on cue.

Democrats have NO SHORT TERM SOLUTION AT ALL and their long-term solution (alternate fuels) are going to come TOO LATE! We NEED ANSWERS and we need them NOW! I’m tired of the Democrats BS - Nancy Pelosi has stated she will prevent any pro-drilling bill from reaching the floor - well guess what, I’m praying she is removed from the house as speaker!

so the proper follow up question is: are you going to then require every american to abandon their current car and buy a more expensive replacement? That’s a lot to ask of 300 million people. Discard your current car - it is now worthless in this scenario - and pay for a more expensive alternative. That is their short term answer.

The most glaring problem with the “alternatives are the answer” argument is that we have some 200 million gasoline and diesel vehicles in current service. None of them is yet capable of running on alternative fuels yet undeveloped. Replacing the entire US fleet will take over a 20 years (after the amazing snake oil alternative is developed). America is hostage to dictator-oil until for the next 30 years - good plan democrats.

Therein lies the rub.....

These ?people? liberals aren’t idiots....they aren’t stupid...they DO “get it”.....

The problem is that things are just the way they want them...They don’t want to HELP the American people...They know exactly what to do to help people and they’ll do whatever it takes to prevent it....

An educated, comfortable, working populace is not easy to control...

People who are not being educated, people who don’t have what they need to live in relative comfort, people who are concerned about where their next check, meal, gallon of gas is coming from are VERY EASY to control....

This is EXACTLY what our “professional politicians” want and will work hard to maintain...

It’s not that they are idiots...far from it....

Increasing production and the use of alternative fuels will ease the problem because they are the same cure, get the supply of energy nearer the demand for energy.

To most Democrats, “alternative energy sources” means walk the twenty miles to work instead. +++++++++++++++++++++++ I've almost solved it. I recently dug up one of the wind turbines near my home and as soon as I figure out how to hook it up to the car I'll let everyone know. The first problem is proving to be huge. How do I navigate overpasses with that thing sticking so high up in the air?

Isn’t it odd that democrats think that increasing the supply of oil won’t help the shortage of domestic oil supplies or shrink the price of energy which they theatrically lament, yet they firmly believe that increasing the supply of domestic government revenue will definitely solve the problem of government program shortages, and are enamored of the price of government?

Shouldn’t conservation work just as well in economics (read taxation) as it does in energy?

Hippo-crits.

How much is she making from being on the OPEC payroll to oppose energy independence and keep the bloody dictatorships in power and money?
