Ooops ... have to make quick "improvement" to that ballpark statistic of 1 in 40,000. Registration for those born in 1961 was to be made starting 28 July 1980 (a Monday), and be completed that week. Five business days, not a years worth. One in five for that date then.

The second date is shown on the printout twice as 09/04/80, once labeled "TRANSACTION DATE" and "LAST ACTION DATE". I do not know what these dates are used for. It is possible that when "On 4 September 1980, the Director of Selective Service announced that 87 percent of the eligible population had registered on time.." that the records were all closed and recorded and those date fields entered. So that circumstance would make the chance of those dates being the same as 1 in 1.

So the ballparkian of coincidence runs 1 in 5 to 1 in 1000. IOW, I made a dust-up over nothing. Sorry all.
