Obama’s alleged cert shows “151 1961-010641”. It encodes the state (151 is Hawaii), the birth year (1961), and remaining number may be a serialization of the filing of a birth record within a year.

Based on births for Hawaii in 1961 according to US Vital Statistics, there were 17578 births in Hawaii in 1961. Assuming they are equally distributed per day, the 10641 corresponds to August 8th. Obama claims to have been born on the 4th, and his birth announcement is printed in local papers on the 13th, so it is likely the 10641 number is the serial number of when the birth was recorded in 1961 in Hawaii.

Not a bad theory, bvw....but over here there's a little competition for having the first child born on January 1st, New Years Day. That alone disrupts the pattern.

I don't know whether he was born here; the CoLB originally published on the web was bogus, since there was no embossed seal and no Registrar's signature. Now if there's a new copy proffered, I still consider it suspect. When asking the state for another, you get a 6"X8" reproduction of the Registrar's file, which is also embossed with the seal and signed by the current Registrar. My son traveled to the Philippines this year and that's what he submitted to the Pass Port control to obtain a pass port.

I think the original certificate is a one time deal, copies are file copies.

10641 number is the serial number

It IS the serial number. It references the COLB for the 10,641st child born in 1961. That it also calculates out to the beginning of August is incidental.

It's really better than that. Unless you believe the August 8 filing date was just picked out of the air which as you know, I believe that is in fact likely the date of a real filing, the 10641 number is arithmetically perfect. If you had access to the records, you did exactly the calculation you did--you go to the records to which your political supporters have access with that number, asking who really has that number; you look the person up and find he is dead so you appropriate his number, knowing that he is not in a position to find out and complain. You were prepared to pick the closest number you could find where the real person was no longer available; but you were able to clear the perfect number and used that.
