Because of the detail and personal resonance to her own birth circumstance it has as much weight as a two line blurb of a birth announcement in a 1961 edition of the same paper.An excert from The Honolulu Advertiser newspaper article, January 8, 2006:
Duckworth is happy to point out that she and Hawai`i-raised Punahou graduate Obama have “a kama`äina connection.”————————————————————Both were born outside the country - Obama in Indonesia, Duckworth in Thailand - and graduated from high school in Honolulu - Punahou and McKinley, respectively.
“The big thing for me is that I’m a McKinley High grad,” said Duckworth. “That gives you a lot of street creds. I wasn’t a rich kid.”
The Honolulu Advertiser published a correction on January 16, 2006 that said:
Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., was born in Honolulu on Aug. 4, 1961. A Page One story last Sunday contained incorrect information about his birthplace.
And it's noted that the paper doesn't say Duckworth retracted her version.
