But the back would be blank and a scan of it wouldnt authenticate something we agree cannot really be authenticated 100% if the original paper copy isnt shared.Why would the back be blank?

OK, it would be non-blank, but would it be ‘proof’ to the doubters? maybe not. You could scan another COLB and paste it together so its not a proven authenticated document.
