To 'Ping' someone to a post or a thread, you just include their screen name the To: box when posting. Hit the 'reply' button and add their name in the To: box. If it's more than one person you're pinging, separate their screen names by a semi-colon (;). For example To: davandbar; tsmith130.

It's also considered polite to 'ping' someone to a post if their name is mentioned in your post. Example, I am posting to you and I mention SE Mom. In the TO: box I would put davandbar; SE Mom.

Thank you so much for anwering my stupid question. I thought it probably was related to that, but I wasn’t sure if I could just type in another name or if I had to link it somehow so it would alert them also.
