Careful! A logical conclusion from that is that they went where he knew they could legally get married...

It's possible, but remember we are talking about an older man, 24 who knocked up a younger woman, 17 I think. No way to know for certain, but I suspect she did not know of his other wife. There was something that I read about her telling Barak Jr, that the divorce was because of the other wife. The problem with that is:

Would a divorce even be required if the marriage was not legitimate in the first place? I'm asking, because I don't know.

A Kenyan marriage would be legitimate.

Even if it wasn't a Kenyan marriage, and the Maui wowie marriage was invalid, the courts would still need to be involved to protect the interests of the baby.
