This may be a different part of the terminal, but it sure looks to me like it's absolutely the Honolulu Airport in the 1960's.

Ahhh......No. That isn't John Rodgers Airport of the '60s. (The second picture is but not the first.)

In 1961, Pan Am and TWA were flying Super Constellations and Boeing 707s for long distance overseas flights. It's doubtful that Philippine Airlines or JAL had routes to HNL then.

Help me to understand what you're saying.

The link at the top of my post says that the second picture is the "Old Terminal, 1960." The Obama picture has the same ticket counters, the same poles with ticket counter signs, the same square lower windows in the background, the same lighted row of signage (different airline signs) on the back wall, and the same ceiling light pattern of rectanglular light and single light. How is it not the same terminal? Is the Old Terminal the John Rogers Airport?

Check on when Japan was no longer under restrictions on aircraft it could own. Should be in the treaty ending the occupation. As I recall Japan didn’t move into Hawaii or the Aleutian routes until the 747s were available, and that’s the 1970s.
