Three charges for rape suspect
DURHAM -- Police have charged a Durham man with first-degree rape, assault on a female and second-degree trespassing in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred on April 22.
Eric Dwayne Thomas, 35, of 704 E. Maynard Ave., Durham, was held in the Durham County Jail pending a $750,000 secured bond on the rape charge. City police arrested him Friday.
A magistrate also ordered that Thomas be held without bond for up to 48 hours in connection with the assault on a female charge.
The assault charge alleges Thomas slapped the woman he's accused of raping. The trespassing charge alleges he was on Durham Housing Authority property after being ordered to stay off it.
Indecent exposure suspect caught
DURHAM -- A Durham man landed in jail Thursday after police charged him with indecent exposure, resisting an officer and assault with a deadly weapon.
Edward Lorenzo Anderson Jr., 42, of 3024 Forrester St., was held in the Durham County Jail pending a $68,000 secured bond.
An arrest warrant alleges the charges came about after Anderson was caught masturbating in front of a woman in the library of Durham Technical Community College.
He also allegedly ran away from an officer who was trying to detain him and then struck a man with the door of his Jeep as he was backing the vehicle with the door open.

Howdy stranger!
“Vanore declined to answer questions about why most of the e-mail messages sent or received by DOT spokesman Ernie Seneca, Correction spokesman Keith Acree and Crime Control spokeswoman Julia Jarema were dated March 2008 and so few were written or received by them in the nine previous months, from June 2007 through February.”
Just a coincidence. (Nothing to see here, move on . . .)
I wish the press had been this skeptical about the oddities in the facts surrounding the lax case.
Duke strikes back, again?!?

On that fitful weekend in late March when the TV satellite trucks hit campus, the lacrosse team could be seen practicing for the Georgetown game, a scene that became an endless video loop suggesting institutional indifference. “We had to stop those pictures,” Bob Steel says. “It doesn’t mean that it’s fair, but we had to stop it. It doesn’t necessarily mean I think it was rightit just had to be done.”)

Thanks for posting this Abb!
Cool.
A word of caution. DO NOT post any personal information like addresses or phone numbers and suchlike. Use email or FReepmail or the LS main blog to backchannel anything like that.
The FR mods will pull the threads that have that in it - that’s what happened to the two threads yesterday afternoon.
Know that our opponents will be monitoring these threads and will instantly point out any infractions to the FR moderators in an effort to shut us down. I suspect that’s how it happened so quickly yesterday.

Al Sharpton convenes another lynch mob
Al Sharpton is back in the news today with his vow to close New York down to protest the acquittals of three police detectives in the death of Sean Bell. The AP story somehow omits to note that two of the three NYPD detectives against whom Sharpton now seeks to lead his lynch mob are are black. So far they have been protected from the likes of Al Sharpton by due process of law.
Sharpton’s long career as the race hustling leader of lynch mobs is one of the continuing disgraces of our public life. How is it that Al Sharpton has assumed this position of leadership in matters allegedly pertaining to race? Though he is accorded an absurdly respected role in the Democratic Party by politicians such as Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, he is easily one of the most vile men active in American public life.
Jay Nordlinger reviewed Sharpton’s record as of early 2000 in his brilliant National Review feature article “Power Dem.” Jay updated his take on Sharpton this past December in his column “Words from Pope Al.” From his promotion of Tawana Brawley’s hoax and his defamation of Steven Pagones and Robert Abrams, to his defense of the Central Park “wilding” rapists, to his role in the pogroms leading to the murders of Yankel Rosenbaum in Crown Heights and eight victims in Freddy’s Fashion Mart in Harlem, Sharpton has compiled a record that should result in his excommunication by decent people from civil society.

PLEASE READ LIESTOPPERS FORUM COMMENTS
Folks, I’ve got my hands full taking steps to make this blog more secure in light of the hacking of Liestoppers Forum.
We share many of the same friends and enemies and we’re proud to have both but — well you know.
Plus at least two editors at The Chronicle - David Graham and Ryan McCartney - are very angry. They’re directing their anger my way.
That’s taking time as you’ll see in posts that have started going up and will continue to go up in the coming days if all goes well.
Meantime, as a gesture of solidarity and to help LS Forum any way I can, I’m posting here at the main page the comment thread of the post I put up last evening alerting readers to the LS Forum hacking.

Ekstrand’s amended Complaint
http://liestoppers.blogspot.com/2008/04/st...e-lacrosse.html
Steel is going to f**k those lacrosse players.
XVII. THE CHAIRMANS DIRECTIVE
445. The Chairman was aware that Mangum was a deeply disturbed young woman who exhibited signs of psychosis, and that her accusations were false.
446. The Chairman was aware that Gottlieb was on a vendetta in response to the Gottlieb Dossier.
447. The Chairman was aware that Nifong was preparing to ride the case into office.
448. The Chairman knew that Addison was lying publicly about the evidence.
449. The Chairman was aware that the investigation belonged to the Duke Police Department.
450. The Chairman knew that, if the public perceived Duke abandoning the Plaintiffs, the public would conclude that Duke knew they were guilty.
451. The Chairman knew Plaintiffs were innocent, and, to the extent he was not certain, he ensured that neither he nor any senior University officials saw the evidence of innocence that he knew was offered.
452. To the Chairman, Plaintiffs innocence was irrelevant: what was best for Duke turned upon perception.
453. Aware of these things, the Chairman announced that it would be best for Duke if Plaintiffs were tried and convicted on Mangums false accusations.
454. In response to a plea for Duke to show some measure of support for the students who were being framed in plain view of the Universitys leadership, the Chairman explained, sometimes individuals have to be sacrificed for the good of the Organization.
455. The Chairmans Directive, as it was understood by one who received it, was straightforward: Steel is going to f**k those lacrosse players.
XVIII. THE CONSPIRACY TO CONCEAL THE DUKE POLICEDEPARTMENTS STATUTORY AUTHORITY TO INTERVENE AND INVESTIGATE
456. To that end, the Chairman directed the Duke Police Department to act in furtherance of that objective. For example, the Chairman, through Brodhead, Trask, Burness, and Graves, directed the Duke Police Department:
A. To cease all efforts to find evidence of the truth, particularly evidence that contradicted the accusers account;
B. To conceal evidence of Duke Police Officers prior investigative role in the investigation;
C. To conceal all evidence of the Duke Police Departments primary jurisdictional authority to control the investigation and its power to intervene to prevent the wrongs conspired to be done;
D. To fabricate false and misleading police reports, disguise them as bystander
witness statements, that covered-up the Duke Police witnesses personal knowledge of Mangums psychosis, her radically changing story, the overwhelming consensus among her doctors and nurses at DUMC that she was lying, and the inability of any doctor, nurse, or police officer to find even a spider-web of evidence that she was raped or sexually assaulted; and
E. To direct those who were at the hospital on March 14th to give not-for attribution false reports about Mangums appearance at DUMC in order to lend credibility to Mangums false claims in the eyes of the public.
457. At all times subsequent to the Chairmans Directive to force a trial and convictions, the Duke Police Department had the power to revoke its delegated authority and/or to intervene to prevent or aid in preventing the unlawful conspiracies and violations of Plaintiffs constitutional rights as alleged herein, and, yet, refused to do so.
458. At all times relevant to this action after March 25, 2006, the Chairman and the members of the CMT directed the Duke Police Department not to intervene to prevent or aid in preventing the wrongs that they knew were conspired to be done to Plaintiffs and their teammates by their co-defendants in this action. In compliance with the Chairmans Directive, the Durham Police turned a blind eye, and did nothing.
Jason Trumpbour relays a conversation with Steele that just might be the most stunning moral indictment of the current Duke leadership to date. Now, stay with me here. Trumpbour tells us Steele felt it would be best FOR DUKE if Collin, Reade, and Dave WENT TO TRIAL. Best for Duke. Say that again: BEST FOR DUKE. If convicted, he shrugged, it would all be sorted out on appeal.
David Graham is the face of the Duke Administration...a group of holier than thou, sanctimonious, (insert your own noun) who believe they are the final authority in any issue.
Did I mention they will sacrifice anything or anyone for the cause?

My hard drives are loaded with info :-)
On a more serious note..I was working on this post yesterday for the Nifong v Addison thread. Glad I saved it.
I agree with out on a limb, Tony and Baldo that Nifong did not know about the case before the 23rd.
I have never thought this started out as 1 grand frame up. I have always thought it was a mistake to look at this as 1 event with a large cast of characters.
SHAKEDOWN 1 (which I am in the minority, I know)
Dan F calls Allure at 3:00
Melissa at Allure calls Tammy at Angels
Melissa calls Kim
Cgm gets call from Tammy about 3:30 (says Melissa will call later)
Melissa calls cgm at 5:50 with directions
The only documentation we have about BT is from Himan’s notes (since the detailed statement Taylor wrote is hidden somewhere) said precious arrived at his place somewhere between 8 & 8:15.
There is a large window of opportunity. Ot need not be an elaborate shakedown plan. These are not smart people, but this is what they do.
SHAKEDOWN 2 The DPD Hoax
There was alot of activity in the Duke ER that night. I bet it did not take long for the word to spread through the grapevine that a poor black stripper has accused the Duke LAX team of raping her. That is big news. But everyone knows it is a lie.
I think those early hours of this Hustle presented an opportunity for the cops to bang up Duke (via the lax players). Shake the money tree and then let the fixer settle it ($$$$$)
SHAKEDOWN 3 Durham “Leaders” get involved.
This could be a continuation of the DPD Shakedown. As it moves up the food chain, it becomes a bit more complicated. But again, a hustle of opportunity.
SHAKEDOWN 4
Nifong gets involved
I do not think anyone thought it would go as far as it did. Nifong taking over the case was an unintended consequence. But Nifong decided he wanted to stay in the big office, regardless of any promises he made.
No one had any choice to go along with him. He knew where the bodies are buried....
