I wasn’t aware of that. I don’t know if that is a new thing in Leopard (I’m running Tiger), but far as I can remember, I never had to change that setting. However, as someone up thread pointed out, there are going to be differences, some of which can be frustrating, but on the whole, my nearly two years of using a Mac at home exclusively has been overwhelmingly satisfying.
As you can see from my last post, the Mac can’t prevent misplaced modifiers:-)
I used to use a different mouse (think it was Logitech, gave to my sis).
I am a “lefty”, and it is hard to find a good mouse that is both “lefty” friendly, and small enough for my hand. Apple’s Mighty Mouse is perfect on both counts.
I do the left-click and the right click with my index finger, just moving that finger to the proper side to make the desired click. I nuzzle the little button up and down, sideways, etc.
I know the two side buttons can be configured, via System preferences, to do other things, but haven’t bothered. One of the wonderful things about the Mac interface is that they have really thought out the different way all us users interact with our computers and mices.
My beloved husband is a devoted “single-click” mouser. I keep trying to explain the advantages of right-click/left click, but he insists on doing it his own unique way.
Mac designers have made it possible for all of us to make our own choices, depending on how we prefer to work.
I love my “wired” Mighty Mouse, and gave my “wireless” to my daughter, whi isn’t as apt to drop things as I am...
Thanks to everyone for your generous offers for help.
I will take you up on it. I won’t ask the really stupid basic questions. I’ll read the manual, the links provided, take the classes and the tutorial that comes with it.
But in a few weeks I will be talking to some of you. I appreciate it.
The old PC had to go. It was so infested with something that it took 40 minutes to load up after the virus scans. I’ll give this a shot and have an open mind.
Clown? Yes.
Playing stupid? I am stupid but in a world full of really stupid people, I’m brilliant.
I really can’t figure this thing out. In fairness, I haven’t tried in earnest yet. I’ll plead my 21st Amendment rights for last night...I probably had a few beers.
82 posta you have not actually read.
Because, while a few of them were inane, at least 24 of them told you the EXACT and SIMPLE answers. Which I will repeat, just in case you haven’t actually read them.
First, use the CONTROL button when you click. Using the control button with a click brings up the right click menu.
That was posted 7 different times. Not sure how you missed this.
Second. Change System Preferences for the mouse. Those preferences are located in the APPLE MENU. The little Apple Icon on the very top menu bar in the far far left upper corner.
That too has been posted at least half a dozen times.
There have been other posts, some helpful, others not; but the two simple answers have been here all along.
You are either not reading them, or putting us all on.
Alright, let me try the preference thing.
Damndest thing. I just made the right side of my mouse secondary and I was able to click on my photobucket page which is the only thing I had saved as a favorite besides FR. It worked. Thanks.
Hey... welcome to the MAC !!
Darnedest thing is... it just works.
Sorry about if I came across rude or anything.

PS... one thing no one else has said... and it’s the freaky nature of that mouse....
it LEARNS how to choose to touch it when you right click.
So be extra careful when right and left clicking to actually use only one finger and keep it to the farthest left and then the farthest right each time...
Cause if you accidentally use two fingers or touch the right side while meaning to click left... it will UNLEARN how to click right.
If it does that, go to prefs, turn it OFF, use it with the control button a couple times, then go back to prefs and turn it back on.
The mouse is the one thing I don’t like about mac... they overthought it a little...
I use a Logitech bluetooth mouse myself. Logitech has been making perfect mice for 15 years.
Apples might mouse is sometimes not so mighty after all.
But the Mac itself is without flaw and has no equal in computerdom.
I’ll get used to that.
For the time being, I have my right mouse click open in new tab down and the edit, copy, paste commands are the same.
I’m ready to rock.
Eric, You say that you have a mouse. You haven’t asked this question yet, but someday you will. That little ball in the middle of the mouse is going to get grinzy, and it will stop working. You won’t be able to scroll through all the rude messages from the PC types.
When this happens, don’t panic. You just have to clean the ball. Do not pay any attention to the Apple instructions on how to clean it.
The best way to clean the ball is to disconnect the mouse from the Mac (or the keyboard), turn it top side bottom, and rub the ball on a clean sheet of white paper for a full minute. The mouse will be good as new! Don’t mess with alcohol (except to drink), q-tips, or anything else. Just rub it on the clean paper for a minute.
thanks. Thats probably a few years off anyway. I’ll probably just by a new mouse.
I kind of like the mouse on the Mac.
You are right.
I meant right click.
