This redirects the attack on the Electoral College by avoiding the amendment process to the US Constitution.

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact is an agreement among U.S. states that would effectively end the electoral college system of presidential elections and replace it with a direct nationwide vote of the people. As of February 2008, this interstate compact has been joined by Maryland and New Jersey; their 25 electoral votes amount to 9.3% of the 270 needed for it to take effect.

The compact is based on Article II, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution, which gives each state the right to decide how to allocate its own electoral votes. States have chosen various methods of allocation over the years, with regular changes in the nation's early decades. Today 48 states and the District of Columbia award their electoral votes to the candidate who wins the most popular votes statewide.

States joining the compact will continue to award their electoral votes in their current manner until the compact has been joined by states representing a controlling majority of electoral college (currently 270 electoral votes). At that point, the member states would give all their electoral votes to the slate of the winner of the national popular vote in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. With the winner of the nationwide popular vote sure to have a decisive majority in the Electoral College, he or she would automatically win the Electoral College and therefore the presidency.

Al Gore Junior won the popular vote with 0.51% margin of victory. This did not include the 3,000 contested yet cleared military absentee ballots in Florida. In fact it ignored a number of absentee ballots that were not going to affect the outcome.

With a 0.51% victory, the ENTIRE NATION would’ve needed a full recount of the votes. Fraud would need to be prosecuted.

Talk about chaos. And the liberal owned big cities would control the election to the disgust of the overwhelming majorities of the counties in this country.

the attack on the Electoral College

I feel this is worth repeating each time I see a thread challenging the constitutional Electoral election process.

The 2000 presidential election was unique. Al Gore received more votes than George Bush. George Bush received more Electoral College votes than Al Gore electing George Bush President. Neither received a majority of the popular votes. Al Gore’s attempt to steal the election caused the media to provide far more information than was usual for a presidential election. That additional information is the point of this response.

I spent a large part of my life feeling that the Electoral College was some sort of a mistake. The wisdom and foresight of the Constitution’s framers became apparent with life’s experiences and observations. However, I don’t think the wisdom of the Electoral election process really took a firm grip until I saw the USA Today’s county by county voting map for the 2000 presidential election and then again in 2004. Please review these voting maps before taking a decision on the merits, or lack of, for the Electoral College.

I'm against it. Hence my add to the title ... "I think their still mad about FLA." Them being Dems and Libs who believe that they know more than anyone else, even without wanting to hear the facts.

IMHO, the Electoral College was designed and put into place by the Founding Fathers as not only a buffer between the general population to select a President and to give States some power over the Federal government they joined to create.

This was botched and bastardized by politicians and the 17th Amendment, in 1913, because they (libs calling themselves Progressive I believe) wanted to take away power from the States in the name of the people they serve. Here-to-for Senators were elected/appointed by the State Legislatures and Congresspeople were elected by the general population of the State.

This movement should be stopped as it short circuits the Constitution by saying the States can change the Electoral College process within their own State. I'm not a lawyer but I believe that when they ratified the Constitution the didn't give themselves a "backdoor" to change it. Ratifying it specifically states their method of redress ... Constitutional Amendment.

As I said I'm against this movement, we need an organization with a petition drive to drown them out at the State level. .

Hmmm, each state uses different rules for voting and one big state could cheat the system to victory for the nation.
