I had a cat that did that. Any time someone got up from the sofa, he would jump into the warm spot they left.
I had given him his own chair, but he wanted the ewarmth from one of us.
After about four or five times, I finally picked him up and put him in his own chair. I just caught a glimpse of his eyes before I went back to sit down. Narrow ~~ glowing ~~ green ~~ pupils dilated.
Before I could sit back down on the sofa, he had gotten on the back of the chair, gotten to the wall, and swatted a “dry broom” arrangement that I had packed with me for several years.
By the time I reached him, he was sitting coyly in the chair, cleaning himself.
Yepper. I miss that ol’ guy!
(Of course, it was the next day that I realized he was running a fever. The vet had no clue, but later on, we realized he was one of the first cats in the country to have feline leukemia. He survived it, though!)
Ohh, I’m so sorry to hear about your loss! IMO, cats behave more like a member of the family than most other animals. Although I have one dog, a boxer, who really thinks she is human, but most of the cats I’ve had were all meticulous in their ability to exhibit human characteristics, especially “getting even”.
