Ever since I saw “Platoon” on the big screen I’ve suspected Oliver Stone must have suffered some profound degradation—perhaps deserved—at the hands of his fellow soldiers in Vietnam. Nothing else could explain his depiction of Americans as psychopathic child rapists, murderers and vandals. “Platoon” was Stone’s revenge.

“Platoon” was the first technically accurate film that purported to be an authentic portrayal of the Vietnam War. On some levels it was very authentic. A good percentage of audiences did not realize they were watching slick propaganda, no more historically correct than “JFK.”

Stone is very talented. I appreciate that film is art and as such must be stylized and dramatic. But Stone achieved his twisted vision at the expense of a lot of veterans.
