So Huckabee, former governor of AR running on the Republican ticket for president, doesn't like being considered the front runner in the polls in Iowa. Why is that? Is it because people start taking a close look at you now? This election cycle has not been so much about candidates rising in the polls as it has been candidates falling in the polls. This has been a season, for both parties, where the majority of the voters are simply not happy with their choices. So as someone moves to the fore front somebody finally gets off their duff and checks them out, and in todays age of 24 hour news channels, and the internet news spreads fast. One thing I have realised is that far more people read articles on the internet then comment on them, so even items on obscure web sites or blogs have the potential to leap to prominence. For instance buried in this Washington Post article cited here is this nugget.
After the Iowa poll showed that Republican voters like him but found him much less "presidential" and "electable" than Romney, Huckabee sought to build his foreign policy credentials, meeting with a group of retired generals who are in Des Moines to urge the 2008 candidates to commit to opposing torture. After the meeting, Huckabee joined Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in declaring his opposition to the interrogation procedure known as "waterboarding," and said he would support closing the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba , a contrast with the other leading Republicans.
Doesn't sound like he will very tough on the terrorists now does it? At one time I thought Huck might be my man but in the last couple of weeks he has really shown his weaknesses. I am still holding onto Fred Thompson and I would like to learn more about Duncan Hunter. They may be the last chance of finding a conservative in this field of what appears to be RINO's (Republican In Name Only)
I shall have to look for a confirming source. If Huck did this, it is one more reason for him to join the democrats.
No.
The man isn’t even mounting a serious campaign.
Duncan Hunter is CLEARLY the ideal man to be President in the current field. Unfortunately, he does not have the money or name recognition to win. I really, really wise he would be the next President of the United States, but I cannot see a scenario where he wins.
Huckabee just imploded, so there is still room for a legit conservative underdog, not the phony one.
I hope you are right, but I can’t see it happening. I’ll vote for ANY Republican over ANY of the Democrats in the field...well...except Ron Paul, but the “sanity challenged” don’t really count.
Unfortunately, we are facing the prospect that we will need to rally behind the moderate Rudy, phony Romney or intellectually challenged Thompson. At least Rudy will be rock solid on national defense...
“At least Rudy will be rock solid on national defense...”
I’m so sick of hearing that statement. WTH do people believe that to be true.......because he said so?
I'm not rallying behind Rudy--EVER!
As to Rudy on national defense, Rudy is clueless.

No. The man isnt even mounting a serious campaign.
*** Then why do you continue to post on Hunter threads? I sense fear in the Thompson camp, and a lot of it is coming from people like you. You go out of your way to shout down Hunter supporters.
Here. This is what I would have posted on another Fred thread but I have gotten so tired of your horse hockey that I decided not to do it, so I’ll do it here. Your candidate is a loser on several levels, including the spiritual plane.

Thompson: ‘I’m OK with the Lord, and the Lord is OK with me’

Funny we raise this issue w Fred and Romney, but not Hucksterbee...who cant tell the diff between God and Caesar
***The answer is in what Fred said, which basically sounds so innocuous that it rings no alarm bells in the average churchgoing person who likes to call himself a christian:
I have no apologies to make about my religion or my relationship to Jesus Christ or God.
If Romney had said this, many evangelicals would be all over him because they see mormonism as a cult which denies the deity of christ by redefining the terms used.
The thing is, Jesus died on the cross because He claimed to be God Himself. A christian believer would understands the deity of Christ would say, I have no apologies to make about my religion or my relationship to Jesus Christ Who is God.
For those of you who wonder why Thompson didnt get the endorsement from Dobson, its little hints and subtleties like this, wherein Thompson is not distinguishable from Romney when he talks about his faith. And yes, Ive already been round & round on this item with Petronski on another thread, so theres no need to continue a flame war.

If Fred & his followers dont want such comments to appear then he shouldnt be so Laodicean in his approach to faith.
Because it displeases you so.
P.S.: Big Jim Dobson is a jackass.
Huckabee might be peaking early, experiencing a blowback of Willie Horton proportions. If that’s the case, Hunter will finally get the kind of chance that other candidates have gotten.
Murdered womans mother: Ill do whatever it takes to help defeat Huckabee

A few days after Thanksgiving, Mike Huckabee was asked what had surprised him about voters over the past six months of campaigning. “The intensity of the immigration issue,” he said immediately, and then added, “I honestly don’t know why it’s gotten so hot.”
Of course he does not know why. He has the globalist worldview.
There may be fear in the Fred camp, but I’m guessing it has more to do with their low poll numbers than Hunter’s barely-registering poll numbers.

***I agree with you that there is fear in the Fed camp, and it’s got to do with his low poll numbers, a sign that he is a lousy candidate. Where did I ever say it was because of Hunter’s poll numbers? Fred has done this all on his own and he needs to step down in favor of the better conservative. He lost 30 points on Intrade, and he tries such idiotic things as nuancing the pro-life position with a federalist approach.
That sentence has Fred written all over it.
But the funny thing is it is clearly due to Fred himself. He just isn’t that impressive of a man or candidate. Sure, nice guy, but ‘leader’? No friggin’ way. He’s a loss in a general election. At least with Hunter there is nothing but praise from 99.9% of the people that hear from him. The only thing keeping Hunter down is this BS manipulation that he has no ‘name recognition’ and therefore ‘can’t win’. It has nothing to do with Hunter’s competence at all.
Well-said.
I agree with you on this, wholeheartedly. The utterings of late chip away at the Republican field ... making them just a mere mirror image of the Dems. These little “non-consequential” things in their eyes have great consequence.
In this last debate, Fred Thompson proved he can’t effectively articulate a thought without a memorized script.
