Arkansas Governer Mike Huckabee suddenly seems to be the established GOP savior. True, he is great on the stump. He is and should be a preacher. But president? NOT if you're a conservative!
Remember, a lot of Arkansans voted for a Clinton presidency so they could get him out of the state! Most of them feel as uninspired about the Huckster. YES, I do mean Huckster.
I made a prediction a few months back, that Huckabee would get a GOP push, that he would be perfect pick to them to balance out a moderate Rudy type candidate with his southern charm and religiosity. Now, I'm convinced of it.
A wise observer stated one of Huck's problems perfectly, "Yep Huckabee is his own man alright, except when it comes to illegal immigration. Then hes George Bush."
Huck talks some good lines on immigration in the debates, but look at some recent statements he's made. In other words, does this man stand by his own policies? One thing that has angered Arkansans is that Huck financed a Mexican Consulate in Little Rock with their tax dollars and insisted on alien children be admitted to college!
LITTLE ROCK -June 30, 2005 - In a impassioned speech before hundreds of influential Hispanic civil rights leaders from across the nation, Gov. Mike Huckabee told a captive audience Wednesday that America is great because it has always opened it doors up to people seeking a better way of life.
"I would hope that no matter who we are, or where we are from, that America should always be a place that opens its arms, opens it heart, opens its spirit to people who come because they want the best for their families ...," Huckabee said as the largely Hispanic audience gave him a standing ovation.
Huckabee was the keynote speaker, along with Tyson Foods Inc. Chairman and CEO John Tyson, at a noon luncheon of the League of United Latin American Citizens, which is holding its 76th annual convention in Little Rock.
In his opening remarks, he said the nation will need to address the concerns of the Hispanic community because of its growing influence and population base.
"Pretty soon, Southern white guys like me may be in the minority," Huckabee said jokingly as the crowd roared in laughter. He told the LULAC delegates that their presence in the state's capital city was very important because Arkansas has one of the fastest growing Hispanic populations in the nation.
"Your gathering is so very significant for our state," Huckabee said. "We are delighted to have you......"
He has compared illegal aliens to slaves brought here in chains from Africa, saying, "I think frankly the Lord is giving us a second chance to do better than we did before."
Toward that end, when an Arkansas legislator introduced a bill that would prevent illegal aliens from voting and receiving state benefits, Huckabee denounced the bill, saying it would rile up "those who are racist and bigots."
He also made the insane point that companies like Toyota would not invest in Arkansas if the state didn't allow non-citizens to vote because it would "send the message that, essentially, 'If you don't look like us, talk like us and speak like us, we don't want you.'
One other bone of contention is shown in this video, where Huckabee Calls for National Smoking Ban in Public Places. Nanny state, anyone?
Ann Coulter sums it up:
"Like all the (other) Democratic candidates for president, he supports a federal law to ban smoking -- unless you're an illegal alien smoking at a Toyota plant. (I just realized why Mike Huckabee can't run for president as a Democrat -- they've already got Mike Gravel.)"
“We can trade with China without giving away the store.”
Not when a Clinton is doing the “trading”....

“Sure, he was a free trader who wanted too open up trade, but he always sought first to protect the sovereignty of the United States and its manufacturing base. He did not confuse free trade with giving the store away.”

“On the Question of Free Trade (look who also loved free trade, the enemy of capitalism, Marx)”
Oh, you are one of those idiots ... why didn’t you tell me up front you dont have a clue about free trade and economics? Have you read F A Hayek, Von Mises, Milton Friedman, or Thomas Sowell ie real pro-free-market economists, on the matter?
StopTheHuckster!
You're one of "those idiots" that trade the same communists who attack our aircraft and hold our servicemen as hostages"?
Nice strawman argument. Thanks for failing to distinguish between apples and oranges. Goodnight.
EXTRA LARGE so you can read the 'fine print':
No need to distinguish trading with communists...they are not an ally. Free trade should be reserved for those who don’t attack our soldiers or provide weaponry to our enemies.
no, Thompson is more conservative than all of those you listed. His voting record shows that and he comes across as stronger too. I like Hunter, but unless he can gather the funds to go directly to the people, he doesn’t stand a chance. He is being practically blackballed in the debates.
Huckabee and Karl Rove have the same theory: I.E. That Mexicans are the Republicans of the Future and will be eventually useful in counterbalancing the death grip the Democrats have on the black vote. THis is an attractive, if entirely bogus, idea in a state like Arkansas which has a close to 50% black electorate.
Also, illegal Mexicans have started to replace blacks in the Arkansas labor pool ... and thus have helped a lot of the Huckster's most fervent supporters make a lot of money.
Count me in.
You got that right. The Huckster left a 3% surcharge on state income tax in place for years after our state went from a deficit to a surplus when he promised it would be repealed as soon as the deficit was eliminated - the liar. I still seeth about that, as well as the sales tax fiasco. He speaks like a conservative, but practices as a liberal leaning RINO.
Hunter is a BIG spender and loves earmarks. I can’t ignore that. Plus he is a protectionist meaning anti-free trade. He is a professional politician who used to be conservative.
Please repeat this loudly and often for all conservatives to hear. It's crucial that our voters are no longer horn-swoggled by slick political talkers.

LITTLE ROCK - In a impassioned speech before hundreds of influential Hispanic civil rights leaders from across the nation, Gov. Mike Huckabee told a captive audience Wednesday that America is great because it has always opened it doors up to people seeking a better way of life.

About 10,000 political, community and business leaders, along with exhibitors and speakers are in Little Rock attending the convention at the Statehouse Convention Center. The convention started Monday and runs through Saturday.
Although he never actually talked about the U.S. or Arkansas immigration policy, Huckabee made it very clear where he stood on the issue. In his opening remarks, he said the nation will need to address the concerns of the Hispanic community because of its growing influence and population base.
He told the LULAC delegates that their presence in the state's capital city was very important because Arkansas has one of the fastest growing Hispanic populations in the nation.
"Your gathering is so very significant for our state," Huckabee said. "We are delighted to have you (criminal invader illegal aliens)"
big spender? How do you know that? Who are you going for in the primary?
In Arkansas, Huckster is already a member of a minority group. It's the shape of a lot of states right now: Negroes on Federal Programs, Hispanics working, white jerks like the Huckster and Tyson temporarily in charge ... and making a lot of money
Until Republicans wake up and begin to contribute to the campaign of the one conservative who gets things done, the party will continue drifting left.
Pretty hard to come up with the Soros purchases, but if all the Republicans who love their country open their wallets to Hunter, we can keep him in until the primaries.
His campaign managers might even buy some primetime spots on network TV! Who knows?????
