Fred Thompson Prepared to Announce Major Plan to Crack Down on Illegal Immigration

Fred Thompson is set to announce today a major proposal that would take a huge bite out of the enormous illegal immigration problem in America. Fred will meet in Florida with the Collier County Sheriff, Don Hunter, and will then reportedly announce the details of his plan that would enforce our nation's borders and target cities and employers that harbor and hire illegal aliens. AP writer Brendan Farrington reports on the expected announcement:

Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson is choosing a county with a large farmworker population to announce an immigration policy Tuesday that will include stripping federal grant money from cities and states that don't report illegal immigrants.

Thompson plans to meet with Collier County Sheriff Don Hunter before announcing details of his border security and immigration enforcement proposal.

A major part of the plan will be to reduce the number of illegal immigrants by increasing enforcement of existing law. Sanctuary cities, where city employees are not required to report illegal immigrants to federal authorities, would lose discretionary federal grants, said a campaign source who didn't want to be named because the plan hasn't been announced.

Thompson will also call for stronger laws to force employers to verify that workers aren't illegal immigrants, a more rigorous system to track who is coming in and out of the country and a plan to increase prosecution of "coyotes," smugglers who bring illegal immigrants across the Mexican border, the source said. He will also talk about border security.

Collier County has vast tomato farms that hire thousands of immigrants. Last year it was part of a two-county sweep with 163 illegal immigrants arrested in one weekend. The campaign plans to cite figures that 22 percent of the county's crime is committed by illegal immigrants and that 40 percent of county's arrest warrants are for illegal immigrants.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement recently trained 27 Collier sheriff's deputies to enforce immigration laws.

At a campaign stop in Georgia last week, Thompson accused rivals Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani of being soft on illegal immigration when Romney was Massachusetts' governor and Giuliani was New York's mayor.

I’m waiting for one of the contenders to advocate a policy of aborting and deporting the homos.

Secondly, we could expel them if we wanted, and you know it. If we did not have a bunch of scum bag pantie waists running the country. I also said that in so many words.

Seriously, how? How -- and I mean details -- are you suggesting that someone to do this?

How do you come up with a plan that finds, detains, holds, and deports all of the illegals without violations of civil liberties of legal immigrants and citizens? How do you ensure that legal immigrants and citizens don't get incorrectly detained and/or deported?

All it will take is one mistake along those lines, and the entire program will be shut down by court injunction.

How about answering Kevrom’s questions in post 243?

Ah a f’n liberal war protester. FU

First off, if you think that, you are clueless (ok given anyways, but) check my Paul "bashing' post...

However, beyond that stupidity, it is ironic that your post in an indirect way addresses the very issues I raise.

We do have scum bag pantie waste in many elected offices and a bulk of the voting population are idiots with 30 second attention spans who have chewed on liberal pablum for 40 years...

What I did find missing from your post is EXACTLY how you plan on getting them all out. You can tell me we damn well can all day long, hell you can tell you can go to the Moon for all I care, but can you tell me how?

Give me facts, not bluster and hyperbole, address the points, the many points I raise in my posts.

Did not think so.

When I see you address those points with facts and realism I'll be glad to listen.

I started out just like you. Every time I went into Walmart and saw the Spanish on the ATM I wretched. Still do, but I also know when and where I live.

I don't want my kids dealing with this crap and I know damn well the American people will not deal with a protracted immigration effort. Hell terrorist blew up one of our most beloved landmarks with thousands of people inside and have already forgotten as a rule, and as much as I hate it, the majority are tired of Iraq no matter whether it is a good thing or not (it is).

We need to lock down the border and exit this issue and fast while the iron is still hot, and if it means making a deal so be it, as long as we can call as many of the shots as possible. Otherwise it will be in the hands of the Dems and the courts.

Do you really want that?

“How about answering Kevrom’s questions in post 243?”

Done!

That's not an answer, that's an ad hominem attack. I am neither a bozo nor a liberal, but if you need to defend your fantasy scenario in those terms, then I really don;t expect an answer to my question.

Nope.

You avoided it. And looking at your previous posts doesn't yield any answer either.

Tell us. HOW would you get the 'round them all up' process done.

Details.

You expound this stance, tell us how it should be done. Let us crtique your program or support it.

But quit avoiding answering the question.

I think I am finally going to take the time to gather my 20+ pages of handwritten notes on all the factors that effect the various scenarios. Then let them chew on it.

I did a rough count last night and I had about 50 variables that all had to fit our agenda to make this work.

It goes smooth if every elected offal and US voter were Duncan Hunter and this Jack Ryan guy....

And there were no Federal courts...

And either 400 Billion in funds to do it quick or 50 years to do it slow...

And between 20 and 30,000 people ready to be trained as ICE agents and prison guards....

And we either build a a few dozen or so new holding facilities, get some cities to volunteer a few High Schools or just release all 2.5 million native criminals in our prisons to make some room.....

And assemble several hundred prison buses that can make trips deep into Mexico

And put together 1000s of Judges and Courtrooms to hear all the lawsuits and injunction petitions for each and every single deportee

And the ones on the run agreed to be good and not rob and steal to stay alive as to not upset the voters...

And manage to get the press to play along...

And...

And...

And...

You will discover that it COULD be done if we had the WILL...

Try answering this question.

How?

Give us your plan.

Read he thread and quit being an annoying ass. You will discover that it COULD be done if we had the WILL...but we don’t

I'm sorry, that's still not a plan. How are you going to round them up and deport en masse them without violating civil liberties, up to and including the accidental detention of legal immigrants and U.S. citizens?

I'm not asking for an evaluation of the national will (nor insults directed at me), I'm asking for a plan.

What is your solution?

I think the Thompson plan is right on target -- it mirrors my own thinking:

  1. Secure the border first and foremost. Nothing else matters if the illegals can just waltz right back in.
  2. Eliminate "sanctuary cities". Governments at all levels are controllable by the purse-strings. Deny them the funding they rely on and watch how fast they'll start to play ball.
  3. Eliminate barriers to enforcement. Give immigration officials the tools and authority they need to do their jobs.
  4. Eliminate incentives for illegals to come and/or stay. Enforce employment screening (including making it easier for employers to screen and to report suspicious behavior without fear of legal reprisal). Eliminate social benefits. Attrition works, as has been demonstrated in a small handful of states already.
  5. Deport illegals arrested for other crimes. 'Nuff said.
Will it get 100% of the illegal aliens? No. But it will get rid of many of them, and do so without violating anyone else's rights. And by emphasizing border security first and foremost, the problem will not continue to get worse.

Oh, you are a TROLL. LOL You and your friends, have a nice day.

Wow. I never thought of that plan before.

Lemme see... here I am asking serious questions, and all I get for my trouble is to be called a "bozo", a "liberal", an "annoying ass", and now a "TROLL".

I get it -- you want to make the illegal aliens wilt before asinine ad hominem comments! Heck, no one's tried it yet, it might just work.

Hmmm... or maybe you could try again and produce, oh, I don't know... maybe a PLAN or something.

Nah, he doesn't have the WILL to see it through.
