* Columbus never wanted to prove the Earth was round! — because everyone already knew it! His goal was to find an overseas trade route to India and China — because Arab bandits made land travel risky!

In his journal Columbus said that his goal was to spread the gospel. That God told him to go on the journey. I didn't read anything about spices or trade routes in his journal. I guess the spices or trade route motivation is recorded elsewhere. I don't know where.
