any cop can be a bad cop if the situation is orchestrated the way this one was. the kid never gave an inch and therefore opened himself up for more suspicion.

instead of saying he would invent charges, the cop should have said, "i'll find something" and proceeded to find a legit violation.

cops are held to a higher standard for a reason. and as we see now, cops can be fired not for violating a person's rights, but for verbally THREATENING to violate a person's rights. scary.

i'll be sure from now on to ask permission to approach suspicious people. and open myself up to more danger. or maybe i'll simply let them go about their business.

Bull. No one forced ex-Officer Keuhnlein to engage in his disgraceful conduct.

instead of saying he would invent charges, the cop should have said, "i'll find something" and proceeded to find a legit violation.

But he didn't, and now he's been fired.

Good.

i'll be sure from now on to ask permission to approach suspicious people.

He was not fired for approaching a suspicious vehicle - so once again, you make no sense.

(BTW, you should capitalize the first word in a sentence, as well as the word "I".)

What is scary is that you seem to think this meets the higher standard that you mention. Even a burger flipper would be fired if they threatened customers.

I think that would be best.

Rank the following in order of criminal severity: (1) to accidentally take someone's coat (e.g. because it was similar to, and on a rack near, one's own), (2) deliberately taking someone's coat because it's nicer than one's own) or (3) threatening to harm someone unless he surrenders his coat?

Police officers are sometimes given a pass on violating suspects' rights if they can reasonably argue that such violations were unintentional. Threatening to deliberately violate someone's rights proves malice and throws the "accidental" argument out the window.

That would look really good in court.

Perhaps rather than "I'll" shouldn't it have been "If I"?

Night sticks and Maglights have been know to make bulbs magically quit working.

Finally only an idiot could have been setup like this.
