Why not just lock it instead of pulling it????

Exactly. To pull a thread is to protect people who behaved badly and disparage the efforts of people who posted in good faith.

This on a forum that has a history of trouble with "disruptors"

The lesson here: To stop a discussion on the Internet just kick up enough camel dung until some overseer comes in and shuts down the works.

Probably to keep people from drgging pieces of it into other threads from now on, IMHO.
