ST. GEORGE A police officer who was recorded berating a motorist earlier this month has lost his job.
The board of aldermen voted 5-0, with one member absent, to fire Sgt. James Kuehnlein on Monday. The vote was cast in a session closed to the public and wasn't announced until Wednesday, when a notice was posted at the City Hall of this tiny south St. Louis County community.
In a video that got wide viewership on the Internet, Kuehnlein taunts and threatens motorist Brett Darrow, 20, sometimes shouting and using profanity, after questioning him in a commuter lot near Interstate 55. Darrow posted the footage of the Sept. 7 incident on the web.

Crime doesn't pay..... Traffic violators do!
Holy cow! This damn thread is still going, from Sept!?
There’s no way I’m reading through 700 posts to figure out why.
Read it again. It is from September 2007.
Short story long: 17 year old kid carries video equipment in car and catches small town Barney Fife on tape with threats of invented crimes.
Story escalates with other Police Officers joining in with harassment and threats.
This post merely brings closure to a long simmering Officialdom Cluster Foxtrot.
Youtube video links sprinkled throughout this and other threads.
One of the best threads was destroyed, um, moderated out of existence because one troll caused trouble and succeeded in eliminating all the good work of many diligent Freepers.
Overall,turned out well.......this time.
Best regards,
Glad everything turned out well.
Let us know where you archived all this stuff and when you will write your book.
Best regards,
Unilateral "flamewar" by one individual who was eventually caught and banned about a year later.
Heaven help me, if I say anymore, the censorship moderator may kill this thread as well even at this late date.
Someday, somehow, Internet Moderators will learn the virtues of transparency and millenia old debate protocols.
It would be nice to think FreeRepublic as the premier CONSERVATIVE website would lead the way in such techniques.
Best regards,
Outstanding, now use the settlement to go to school. Don’t blow it on toys and crap. Spend it right, and in a couple of years you’ll have something to show for it instead of nothing.
excellent news Brett. Congrats.
Happens a lot. Certain people know how to kill threads. We have a resident troll of tech threads that has been banned many times, and has recently returned. I look forward to many otherwise decent conversations being turned into useless dreck because of this.
I personally think it is deliberate. Funny thing about the Darrow threads is the guy self destructed at least two or three times. The censorship acted to PROTECT HIS mis-steps and punish all the people who engaged in good faith efforts.
Oh, and apologies. I did not realize I responded to a 2007 post.
Best regards,
Yup.Certain disruptors know how to play the system well. I'm not entirely sure the FR Mods purposefully covered his rear, but it certainly had that effect.

LOL. I've posted on older threads than that. :-)
We knew that Sgt. James Kuehnlein got canned, that the bald-headed police chief who tried to smooth things over with you liked to sexually harass teenage girls at traffic stops, and that the former mayor of your town is a pothead who collects child porn.
What I didn't know is that they folded up the entire police department. You were really at the mercy of a sordid cast of career criminals in your hometown, weren't you?
Let this message serve as a digital handshake from me to you. It's an honor to shake the hand of a Freeper who brought down an entire police department and a corrupt mayor. You're Gary Cooper around here as far as I am concerned.
I hope that your settlement is large enough to put you through law school with enough left over to even get a tattoo to commemorate the incident.
