To have a conservative candidate as our nominee, we need to rally behind a single candidate and need to do so fast. Mike Huckabee is an articulate defender of conservative values, likeable and electable.
When the choice of Presidential Candidates became clear, I wrote that both Rep. Duncan Hunter and Gov. Mike Huckabee are both true conservatives and effective communicators of conservative philosophy. They have common sense, yet compassionate, philosophies and would both make excellent presidents. While Rep. Hunter should be receiving far more publicity than he is, the fact is that, through no fault of his own, he's not. The media machine doesn't give much coverage to leading conservative voices and generally doesn't give much exposure to second tier candidates to begin with. A lot that says about a media that simply ratifies the frontrunner of the day, but it also means that Rep. Hunter is unlikely to win and efforts must be concentrated elsewhere to ensure that we nominate a conservative. Gov. Huckabee has shown himself to be a resiliant campaigner and is positioning himself for shot at the nomination. Those who do not want a nominee with a big government philosophy would do best by rallying behind him. The Governor would make a fine President. He has shown tremendous strength, coming across very well in every debate so far and is the best candidate who has a shot at the nomination. For these reasons I'm now endorsing Mike Huckabee. While it is my hope that he won't be a vice presidential running mate to a big government republican, he would make a fine president and an excellent candidate if he's on top of the ticket.
Simply put, we need a candidate who does not believe in enlarging a government that has already grown far too big. That candidate needs to be an articulate representative of conservative philosophy and needs the skills and organization to realistically be able to capture the nomination. Gov. Huckabee is one such candidate and has positioned himself as the best conservative candidate in the race.
Paperdoll’s right. This just isn’t a good example of states rights. Allowing unelected state courts to undermine society by judicial fiat was never the intention of any of the fighters for states rights. The right of the people to remove such judges would be.
As long as the Defense of Marriage Act stands, Massachussetts can allow gay marriage and Oklahoma is not bound to recognize such.
>Duh I guess you LIKE activist federal government.<
Don’t hurt yourself when you jump to conclusions, dirtboy.
Fred Thompson could still have an opinion without taking Federal action. That’s all that has been asked of him. I have yet to hear FDT give a clear answer to any question.
If Huckabee's nominated, I'm voting 3rd party. I want a President, not a Daddy.
No. If you like a candidate and believe he is fully qualified on every issue, you stick with him through the primaries. That way he has a good chance to take the nomination. Then you work your heart out to get him elected. That is the way it works. You don’t settle for less when elections are this far down the road.
It's bad enough that special-interest groups under the guise of working "for the children" are enacting local and state smoking bans. After smoking bans, it'll be national bans on trans-fats, sugar, sweets, porn...you get the drift. Huckabee will alienate a lot of libertarian and swing voters.
Fred has stated that as long as DOMA is law of the land, he does not see the need for an amendment.
OK. Well, you have a right to your opinion although I respectfully and strongly disagree, but hey, that’s why we have FR, to debate the points, right? The Huckster epitomizes exactly what’s wrong with the GOP now. He’s not really either a social nor fiscal conservative anymore. He’s whatever you want him to be. I should know. I’ve lived under his governorship his total career in Arkansas. What he started out as (conservatively) and what he’s developed into, are two very different political animals. But hey, support him if you will, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. Ciao - OB1
“To have a conservative candidate as our nominee, we need to rally behind a single candidate and need to do so fast.”
But “Give three Congressional Seats to Washington D.C.” Huckabee isn’t it.
Sorry. Hunter is the man, failing that, Thompson.
>Fred Thompson could still have an opinion without taking Federal action.<
>>Fred has stated that as long as DOMA is law of the land, he does not see the need for an amendment.<<
I don’t consider that an answer to his ‘opinion’. What about all the other unanswered questions?
Sorry, but Mike Huckabee is NOT a true conservative.
AMEN! And that’s not much to ask, is it?
At this point, Hunters not going to win.
Maybe - maybe not - but at this point, Huckabee's not either.
A more important part is that the ammendment would prevent rogue judges in MA or IA from changing state law by judicial decree, against the will of the people. That’s how MA got stuck with it.
