I live in Alabama (despite my name on here) and it’s the first I’ve heard of any vote of any kind.

99.9% of the state didn’t know about it, but I’m sure the Ron Paul machine made sure a few (all?) of his supporters in Alabama did.

Then by your logic none of the other candidates let any of their supporters know about it at all since they didn't show up to vote.
That means their "machines" aren't working and that's not a good thing for them.
