One of the reasons Hunter is my forst choice we both agree on the logic of dealing with this mess the other politicians (except for Tancredo) want to treat cautiously.

We have become a nation of wussies.

We disagree more often than not, and strongly, yet both of us support Duncan Hunter. At least we have THAT going on.

Not to rile you, but my understanding of the origins of this is that they go back before the 2 Bushes and Clinton. Way way back to every modern President and every modern Congress, looking at it as a broad, challenging problem that has eaten away at us for decades. If you’re merely talking about current laws on the books and how far back THEY go, maybe your view of it would be sufficient.

I don’t think it is sufficient, when getting past a narrow view of the thing. And in my broader, longer view, Ronald Reagan is on the list as well. And repeating for emphasis, EVERY Congress who found it okay for things to keep going in the direction they were heading.

To remind of what a Congress full of Duncan Hunter’s could have done, if they’d been of a mind to, recall what Hunter did with the San Diego border fence legislation.

If Hunter can bring together Zulu and pissant onto the same team, he can bring together the whole party. LOL

He can bring in some traditional Democrats and Independents, too. If only, if only he has the chance...

“We disagree more often than not, and strongly, yet both of us support Duncan Hunter. At least we have THAT going on.”

True.

“Not to rile you, but my understanding of the origins of this is that they go back before the 2 Bushes and Clinton. Way way back to every modern President and every modern Congress,..”

I suppose that is true to a degree. But there WERE Presidents with courage on this subject. I think Eisenhower gave border guards orders to shoot illegal invaders if they tried violating our borders.

“And in my broader, longer view, Ronald Reagan is on the list as well.”

Everybody needs a hero. Reagan had his faults, as all people do, but he was essentially a decent man of courage who recognized the enemy facing America and did everything he could to destroy them - he succeeded. And it was a monumnetal job. My understanding is Reagan approved the first Amnesty Program. But it is also my understanding that he ALSO approved, along with it, a series of strong laws to punish employers who hire illegals and discourage future violations of our borders - laws which were ignored by succeeding administrations. He never intended that a second amnesty would occur, and he most certainly would never have done what the current occupant of the White House has done with our borders in concert with the Mexican government.

“And repeating for emphasis, EVERY Congress who found it okay for things to keep going in the direction they were heading.”

Absolutely. The last bill was crafted by Kennedy and McCain and had bi-partisan support and was a close thing. It also had bipartisan opposition for various reasons.
But it isn’t Congress which is empowered to execute the laws of the land. They just make them. Given they are a part of the problem, especially the “House of Lords” aka Senate. The responsibility for enforcing the laws of the land lie with the men in the White House who take an oath of office to uphold and defend the Constitution and Federal laws enacted under it. Clearly, this is not the case with the current President who has been more high-handed than any President I can ever remember in refusing to uphold his oath of office. He is still doing it. The defeat of the McCain-Bush-Kennedy Bill was just a defeat for de jure amnesty and guest workers. The current administration has no intention of following the wishes of the overwhelming number of Americans and the law of the land on this subject. De facto, it might just as well have passed.

Congress’ recent high-handed actions relative to benefits for illegals is another indication that they still don’t get it down there.

“To remind of what a Congress full of Duncan Hunter’s could have done, if they’d been of a mind to, recall what Hunter did with the San Diego border fence legislation.”

A congress full of Duncan Hunters and a Duncan Hunter in the White House would truly restore America to its once former glory.

FDT will not stand up under scrutiny if he is challenged arbitrarily. Those cream puff, folksy firesides afforded him by H&C will be but a dim memory, IMO.
