Let’s see what happens in the debates regarding this issue. I’d like to see Thompson answer the question directly:
“Assuming Roe were tossed, if a state has decided that first trimester abortion is legal, on what basis does it then dictate that a poor woman who otherwise receives health care through public assistance, should be denied access to the procedure?”
Let me hear him answer it.
The answer is too easy.
That is for the states to decide.
Planned parenthood or some other liberal organization will fund the abortions for the poor.
Why should she receive any public assistance at all for a purely elective procedure? Maybe they should pay for her facelift too?
Anyway, the correct answer is that once the federal government is out of it, it IS up to the state, where citizens have more direct input and control, at least in theory. It's such a simple answer even Rudy should have thought of it.
Your question could be better phrased, “If a woman is on welfare, should the state pay to have her child’s limbs ripped off?”
