Fred Thompson in 1994: Let The Woman Decide - Monday, April 09, 2007 @ 3:06:23 PM
|
During his first run for the U.S. Senate, Fred Thompson said in an interview to a libertarian Republican newsletter that the ultimate decision to have an abortion "must be made by the woman."
The comments were made in the July/August issue of Republican Liberty, the official newsletter of the Republican Liberty Caucus.
In the interview, Thompson was asked: "Some conservatives got flustered by your comments on abortion and Roe vs. Wade. Would you like to explain your position on abortion?"
Thompson answered: "Government should stay out of it. No public financing. The ultimate decision must be made by the woman. |

“He has issues that detract.
The overwhelming fly in his ointment is the intangible that he does not connect. His speeches are stale, predictable, lacking vision; nothing extraordinary. His presence is stiff and his policies are devoid of original conservative thought. They are shoehorn fits to perceived social issues with solutions that are glommed together to satisfy focus groups.
Hes a mannequin.
There is no compelling reason for people to vote for him, hence his 3% in the polls.”
If you say so my friend. I think Mitt Romney is the most dynamic candidate the Republican party has had to offer since Reagan. I watch MittTV, and I’m practically hypnotized. To quote an enthusiastic caller into Fox News, “I’m so excited about Mitt Romney I can barely sleep at night”. I’m absolutely at a loss as to how anyone can watch his CPAC speech, or his Israel speech, or segments of his Ask Mitt Anything program, or any myriad of Romney videos, and call him “stale”. Say what you want about Romney’s sincerity, conservative bonafides, but he’s an absolute rockstar in front of a camera, or in any public setting whatsoever. That’s the only reason an obscure Mormon Massachusetts governor is breaking into the 15-25 range in the only 4 states he’s spent time in (Iowa, New Hampshire, Michigan, and South Carolina) and is out fundraising lifelong politicians with lifelong political connections.
No one is denying the quote. But the insinuation is false. NARAL grades Fred 0% and Rudy 100%. That YOU cannot deny.
It happens even when its a post about someone else other than Rudy. LOL! They see my tag line and they just can’t resist!
...laughing.
It’s already been debunked in several posts and in several other threads.
This fellow comes on FR everyday at all times of the day and posts the same tripe over and over. Then people get annoyed and they look at his profile and they see he is a Rudy supporter.
What do you expect them to do when they have discredited him time and time again?
Do you mind posting links to my Fred Thompson posts that I post over and over again? LOL! I hardly post any because of the backlash I get.
That is an inherently deceptive tactic.
3%.
Some think Rosie is a gas.
Yes, you basically said that Freepmail didn’t count. I can send it to one of your trusted FRiends to keep, but they would probably spill the beans to you.
I’m willing to trust you. My pals would tell me and I wouldn’t even have to ask...lol. :0)
Whew...it’s exhausting, isn’t it?
I’ve been watching Thompson for years..and always had that vague “damn, I wish HE’D run” kind of thought every time I heard or saw him...
When Bob Beckel said Fred Thompson was the libs worst nightmare...I didn’t realize he’d turn out to be some FReepers worst one too!
Are you saying that pro-choice was never Thompson’s position?
He’s got the stature and physically too.
I’m also thinking that Americans might delight in having a first family with young children in the White House.
I think he could likely win it all if he runs and it’s looking more like he’s going to run.
When I was in Washington, D.C., I talked to a person who will have to remain unnamed, and he said it’s better than 50/50 that he’ll run.
Funny how people always quote the polls that confirm their biases. No mention of the 25 in New Hampshire, the 12-20 in Iowa, the 14 in South Carolina, the 21 in Michigan, or the numerous national polls (beyond that obvious outlier) that have him between 7-12. But if 3% helps you sleep at night.

This sounds so familiar. Thanks for posting it.
It’s easy for people to check you on that. FR has the search feature that allows anyone to put in your moniker and presto, we all see Fred Thompson is this and Fred Thompson is that...and in each thread there are links that show your info is crap.

And it’s pretty obvious that when you’re not pumping your candidate you’re attacking his most formidable competition.
And it’s obvious you’re backing a loser because of this simple fact:
FDT supporters do not start threads attacking Rudy Guliani. They only attack in defense when you, a Rudy supporter attack their candidate with baloney bs articles.
Allright you two. I like boths of yas, so settle down before we have to set up the Octagon. LOL
Bottom line is this: A51 Rightly sees a Thompson entry into the race as potentially the biggest threat to Rudy’s lead. Since Jimrob allows Rudy fans to post away, an arrangement I agree with, btw, then posting mud about the other candidates is fair game.
If the article is erroneous in its assumptions/reporting or the follow up freeper posts are wrong/ignorant, then expect to battled.
Personally I think comparing Thompsons and Rudys commitment to life issues is like comparing Reagans and Rudy’s commitment to the 2nd amendment. There is little there there.
But this is where we hash this stuff out.
Carry on.
I thought you meant Fred Thompson posts. Not Rudy posts. My mistake.
I figured. have a nice night. :o)
