Fred Thompson in 1994: Let The Woman Decide - Monday, April 09, 2007 @ 3:06:23 PM
|
During his first run for the U.S. Senate, Fred Thompson said in an interview to a libertarian Republican newsletter that the ultimate decision to have an abortion "must be made by the woman."
The comments were made in the July/August issue of Republican Liberty, the official newsletter of the Republican Liberty Caucus.
In the interview, Thompson was asked: "Some conservatives got flustered by your comments on abortion and Roe vs. Wade. Would you like to explain your position on abortion?"
Thompson answered: "Government should stay out of it. No public financing. The ultimate decision must be made by the woman. |

I think Jim will be doing backflips if we help sink the good ship Rudy.
How about standing up a candidate declaring your candidate? All I see from your posts is pooping on Romney and Giuliani.
Do you plan on voting for anybody or just voting against people?
I think it's quite possible Jim will be happy to support a pro-life candidate if the Republicans nominate Rudy.
sloppiness does not help your credibility.
“Where would be the shame in “freaking out” about nominal conservatives using a conservative website to spread deception about a conservative candidate in order to advance a liberal like Rudy?”
Thank you.
This is not what Free Republic is about.....spreading disinformation, promoting a liberal, an maligning a conservative.
I think I smell fear.
Given the choice, I'll take Thompson in a New York second.
I’d imagine the reason this source was used because the story was already posted from the original source under it’s original title:

Do you know how many times they tried to post the same “national review said thompson was pro choice in 1994!” article?
They’ll do it over and over as long as they can get away with it.
You raise a vital point. If abortion is to be protected to such an extent that we want government to attempt to convict women of murder if they abort their pregnancy, then we must enter a legal and regulatory regime that invites tyranny.
If the unborn are protected by the law to the full extent that you or I are protected, then if any woman shows even a hint that she is pregnant and later is observed as not being pregnant, then government will treat that situation as vigorously as they treat a kidnapping, starting by interrogating the woman on suspicion of murder and placing the burden of proof on her to prove she had not been pregnant.
Ahh, but she’s PAYING for the privilege!
I agree....
Because it's BS. If you're going to criticize Thompson, do it objectively instead of distorting his record.
All to promote a gun-grabbing pro-abortion liberal.
I don’t think he’d be happy about it, rather he would be pained about having to do so, like many here.
The GOP can ill afford this lurch to the left that the Rudy supporters insist is necessary.
The thread was started by Rudyite that feels the need to ‘poop’ on Fred Thompson.
Such people are here everyday showing us how much they ‘Fear the Fred’.
Just as long as you don't post any articles in the wrong forum.
Fred Thompson has a perfect pro-life voting record. What's to deny? His record speaks for itself.
Meanwhile, not only is Rudy Giuliani not pro-life, he even supports partial birth abortions and taking money out of our paychecks to fund them. His position is extreme.

Video: Giuliani endorses Cuomo over Pataki - blasts Pataki for wanting to cut taxes
Grasping at straws???????
Right now my main activity, being so far out from the primary, is to help make sure the big 3 RINOs are exposed. Then with them out of the way, the actual conservative candidates can vie for the nomination. Then I’ll make my final choice.
Until then, I will debunk the anti-fred-fud coming from the rudybots and romneyites, who are terrified at the thought of fred thompson entering the race and knocking their favorite RINOs on their butts.
Real skeletons...
