A modest proposal:
No self-respecting proponent of evolution would go off in search of these climbers (or go save the whales for that matter). Any artificial or morals-based disruption in the delicate balance of survival of the fittest is an assault on nature.
Imagine if 200 million years ago most of the Gerrothoraxes got together and decided on moral grounds to prevent any Stenaulorynchuses from getting eaten by the Mandasuchuses and to rescue any Eryopses who got lost hiking around Mt. Vesuveruptus. My goodness, we might not be here today!
Please, let nature runs its course without interference from any do-gooders.

I guess you believe in nature "running its course" when you have angina and need a stent. Or cancer and need chemo?
Can we just kick you to the side of the road?
The most adventurous derring do that got us all here was the men who left in boats to explore the unknown.
Society underwrites this kind of activity from space exploration, air flight and so on.
Besides there is nothing quite like hanging on every report hoping they will be found.
Plus they have Mammas,,you wanta tell their Mamas that it is too much trouble and expense to save their boys?
