Rice's approving 'gay' remarks rankle GOP base, Secretary welcomed new AIDS ambassador's

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice assists newly sworn-in Ambassador Mark Dybul as he signs appointment documents Oct. 10 at the State Department (White House photo
The Bush administration's swearing-in of an openly homosexual global AIDS ambassador and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's approving remarks during the ceremony about his lifestyle are reflective of a Republican party "identity crisis," say some family advocates in the nation's capital. While the party wants the support of "values voters," it also is courting homosexuals and seems willing to appease the movement's radical agenda, USA Today said in a feature story.   Rice and first lady Laura Bush spoke for the administration at the Oct. 10 swearing-in at the State Department where Dybul was accompanied by his male partner, Jason Claire. Rice, during her comments, referred to the presence of Claire's mother and called her Dybul's "mother-in-law."

According to the State Department transcript, Rice said:

Thank you. Thank you very much. I am truly honored and delighted to have the opportunity to swear in Mark Dybul as our next Global AIDS Coordinator. I am pleased to do that in the presence of Mark's parents, Claire and Richard; his partner, Jason; and his mother-in-law, Marilyn. You have wonderful family to support you, Mark, and I know that's always important to us. Welcome.

The use of a term normally reserved for legally married heterosexual families rankled Peter Sprigg, vice president for policy at the Family Research Council, who called Rice's comments "profoundly offensive," according to Agape Press.

The secretary's remarks, he said, fly in the face of the Bush administration's endorsement of a federal marriage protection amendment.  "We have to face the fact that putting a homosexual in charge of AIDS policy is a bit like putting the fox in charge of the henhouse," said Sprigg. "But even beyond that, the deferential treatment that was given not only to him but his partner and his partner's family by the Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is very distressing."  Sprigg said, according to Agape Press, in light of the Mark Foley scandal, "it's inexplicable that a conservative administration would do such things."

Rice's comments, he added, conflict with a law protecting traditional marriage.  "So, for her to treat his partner like a spouse and treat the partner's mother as a mother-in-law, which implies a marriage between the two partners, is a violation of the spirit if not the letter of the Defense of Marriage Act," Spriggs said.  The Foley scandal has highlighted the number of homosexual staffers working for Republican lawmakers, USA Today noted, causing some family advocates to wonder if this influence has anything to do with the party's lack of action on conservative social issues.

The Family Research Council's Tony Perkins framed the question this way: "Has the social agenda of the GOP been stalled by homosexual members or staffers?"  Dybul is the nation's third openly homosexual ambassador, Agape Press noted, pointing out that in all three cases the homosexual partners held the Bible on which the oath of office was taken.  As WND reported, a new book also has raised the eyebrows of some evangelicals. White House political advisers embraced evangelical supporters publicly to get their votes while mocking them privately as "nuts" and "goofy," according to David Kuo, the former No. 2 man in President Bush's so-called "faith-based" initiatives program.

I've pretty much given up on movies for awhile. Don't rent. No cable. Don't go to theaters. Nothing. Either I'm out of the target demographic or they're just making really dumb movies these days.

I am shocked! Shocked I tell you that there is political pandering going on during an election year! We're all doomed!

One problem about having a homosexual in charge of figuring out how to stop AIDS is that it is precisely homosexual behavior that causes the spread of AIDS. What's this man's viewpoint about, say, bath houses?

And it's not just wild promiscuity. The very act of anal sodomy spreads all kinds of disease since it is highly unnatural and unhealthy.

I vote a straight Republican ticket, and plan to as usual. Unless there is a conservative local person running and it doesn't matter so much as far as majority. But even that is theoretical.

But the "gay" agenda is really getting very, very tiresome. And it would be refreshing if some of the GOP suits seemed as though it mattered to them as well.

"

Then, I suggest that you cut the crap and stop trashing the Republicans who are in office. If you really think that appointing a gay man to run the Global Aids Program is evil, you're way off base. Who he sleeps with is irrelevant to the problem. President Bush knows that. Condi knows that.

Like a lot of people, your message is all flash and no substance. You whine and complain, but then you go ahead and vote the Republican ticket anyhow.

Have you any idea how much the constant whining about Republicans who don't do exactly what you think they should do harms your own cause?

Grow up. Life is not guaranteed to give you exactly what you want. Gays exist. Some are very talented. They get hired to do all sorts of things. Sometimes they are the very best choice for a particular job. Get over it.

Constantly stressing about whether someone is having sex with someone else is foolish. It's a waste of time and energy. There are things to do out there. The GOP is at risk of losing some important races, and whining about some candidate who doesn't do exactly as you like is not helpful.

Again, grow up and recognize that your particular set of likes and dislikes are irrelevant on a national scale.

"But you underestimate your Christian Moral Conservative friends.. they will not be voting Democrat, but third party, probable Constitutional.
"

Actually, we do not underestimate them. Those who do not even know the name of the third party are not likely to vote for it...if they bother to vote at all.

Here's the deal: This country is not run by your interpretation of the Bible. The Bible is very important in the USA, but your particular little interpretation of what is important in the Bible is of little interest.

Gays are U.S. Citizens, too. President Bush has several working in his administration. He has appointed one to head this AIDS thing. Condoleeza Rice and Laura Bush were there for his swearing-in ceremony, as was his mother, partner, and his partner's mother. So? I'll wait and see if he does a good job.

This nonsense is just crap. You don't like gays? OK. Don't like gays. If you insist that no gays work for the government, then you're going to lose...every time. If you're all angry at Bush and Condi...well...get over it. Would you rather John Kerry was President?

Just stop it. The GOP has more than enough problems right now. It doesn't need a bunch of people with their panties in a bunch every time a gay person appears in public. Go home. Read your Bible. I recommend Matthew, Chapters 5-7.

What? You mean, is she a Democrat? I've seen no sign of that.

Oh, I see. You're heaping additional calumny on this woman because you'd like to think she is a lesbian. Grow up.

"Voting the lesser of two evils is what got us this mess... see Biblical reference in my post above showing NOT to vote the lesser of two evils...

"

There ya go. Go vote the Constitution Party, then. (Not the Constitutional Party, as you erroneously called it in an earlier message.) I'm sure the Democrats will thank you for your vote.

Better yet...just stay home and come back and whine the day after the election. That would be typical.

You're really over-reacting, MM! I vote a straight R ticket (again, unless there are conservative locals, which there rarely or never are) because - THAT IS THE ONLY THING AVAILABLE.

I do not "trash" Republicans. I also do not give them slobbery kisses just because they have an "R" after their name. I point out lack of conservative values when needed hoping to exert a tiny little influence in steering the GOP to real conservatism.

My values are not irrelevant, btw. And to appoint someone to help stop AIDS who is a member of the very group that is spreading AIDS is odd.

I actually don't think about stuff like this often at all, only when needed does it surface.

I'm happily married to a member of the opposite sex, btw. And according to your logic, those who think a lot about, say, how to oppose and defeat terrorism, also have a screw loose? Thinking or contemplating about evil and how to counteract or defeat it means the thinker has something wrong with him/her?

I'm not over-reacting. You're on here whining about something that doesn't matter, and blowing it all out of proportion.

I know several gay men. One is my wife's cousin. He is in a long-term relationship and is a dentist. He works very hard in his off hours helping AIDS victims.

A large number of gays are fighting AIDS. Why? Because it is a disease that attacks their friends. Me? I fight breast cancer, because I have lost several women who were friends to that disease.

You're single-note diatribes do nothing to foster the cause of conservatism. Conservatism is not about religion. It is a political belief system. Some Christians are conservatives. Others are not.

Some gays are conservatives. Others are not. It's an equal opportunity political system.

You have you own issues that are your favorites. That's fine, but it has nothing to do with the overall cause of conservatism.

Right now...this year...conservatives are faced with the possible loss of one or both houses of Congress. This is not the time for your panties-in-a-bunch nonsense. It is not the time for Whirled Nutz Daily and Agape News to be dumping on the Bush administration. There are plenty of folks on the left already doing that. The GOP doesn't need more of it.

Give it a rest for three weeks, OK. Shut up for a while. Keep your moral outrage in your pocket until after the election. If it won't stay there, then stick your hand in your pocket and hold it still.

Do that, or risk helping the other side to destroy whatever conservatism is left in the GOP. It's up to you. Really, it is.

Bush appointed this gay man to his position. You don't like that? Fine. But keep it to yourself for three weeks. Surely you can stop trashing the GOP for three weeks.

Vote as you will. That's good. But don't waste your vote by convincing some other person to vote for some third party in an abortive attempt to "send a message."

You're a clever person, but you're stuck on one issue. The world's a complex place, with lots of issues. Frankly, your issue isn't all that important right now, and you're doing a lot of harm.

Pack up your ping list, put it in your pocket, and stuff your hand down in there to keep it still. Come back after the election, and post all the hatred you want of gays, schools, and whatever else blows your skirt up.

Just stow it for three weeks.

Hmm - one note? The moral absolutes ping list, which was my invention and much more interesting to me than the homosexual agenda list, covers a wide array of issues.

I do not hate homosexuals. I do hate the homosexual agenda, because it is based on lies, uses lies, repression of any debate, coercerion, leftist judicial activism, indoctrination of the young, and so on.

I never have recommended (as if anyone would follow my recommendation anyway) to vote third party. IMO third party votes are like money torn up and thrown in the trash can.

I respect you and appreciate your generally civilized tone in debates, although we often find ourselves on opposite sides. But you're kind of going over the edge on this one.

Side note: If homosexuals want to fight AIDS, then they should promote the truth that no one is born homosexual, and that many have left the "gay" life. If any homosexual is a real conservative, and does not support the "gay" agenda, I would welcome such with open arms (rhetorically speaking). But so few are like that - Tammy Bruce and who else? Just a few.

You're attack on Little Jeremiah is uncivil and unjust.

It is political activist "gays" that gave turned what should be a private sexual matter into a political issue by:

1. stopping the psychiatric treatment of homosexuality, convincing people that it is not a problem of psychological development (the best definition possible), that it cannot be treated, thereby leading thousands of young men to their deaths

2. spreading the ridiculous falsehood that homosexuality is "biological" or "genetic"

3. forcing the agenda of "gay" marriage unto the public.

This is an issue that is going to affect the very foundation of our society. Soon "gay" marriage will become a reality putting the final nail in the coffin of the american family (if everything is marriage then nothing is marriage); thousands of young people are going to die of AIDS because they believe they have no choice but to be "gay"; it is not trivial.

Like it or not it is a HISTORICAL FACT that the "Gay" population was the breeding ground for the spread of AIDS in this country. And homosexual sex is still the most common way by which the virus is spread in the United States.

Conservatives should be concerned about fostering a society that upholds traditional values. Who else will speak up for Western Civilization and the family? The Mainstream Media?

I have seen the "Gay" life more up close and personal than you ever will. Fortunately, I got out of it with my health intact. We need more people like Little Jeremiah; it's people like Little Jeremiah who were willing to speak the truth who saved my life.

For a better understanding of the significance of the "gay rights" and homosexuality to our society read:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1575153/posts

This article explains better than I can why this issue is significant and why people who believe in traditional values should be concerned and why such people should have the right and a forum to express their views.

Typical? How would you know typical. I would dare guess more godless atheist do that than conservative Christians (otherwise you would have the elections over at the end of the primaries after the dims were voted).

Your rant makes as much sense as usual. BTW... any time you care to pick passages out of Matthew 5-7 to discuss, let me know... be glad too... Rejoice even.. because you have long lost your salt, and no longer have value.

"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.

.

.

BTW... I love Matthew 5:17... glad you brought it up...

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

What are you teaching Mineral?

I got news for ya Mineral? If you love someone, you don't lie to them and sugarcoat sin. If you love someone you care enough to tell them the truth to help prevent them from going to hell. Just as a parent corrects his children to keep them out of harms way instead of giving in and not caring.

"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor[h] and hate your enemy.' 44But I tell you: Love your enemies[i] and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be sons of your Father in heaven."

Love that cares chastises. You don't care, I do, and you can bet your bottom dollar I will vote come November.

Makes no sense.

Uh, okay. Let me explain.

You said, it's shameful that Republicans think gays should not be treated with respect.

While it's true that some Republicans have certainly given that impression, it's not true of all Republicans.

You used a broad brush to 'paint' all Republicans the same way. I was merely cautioning you to be careful of doing that.

Excretory routes and the homosexual obsession with fecal material is disgusting to most humans -- if you are homophilic I don't mean to offend you. Being disgusted by aberrant behavior does not make one a bigot. Where do you stand on sex with animals, siblings, and offspring? Does that make you a bigot? Do you have some sense of the myriad of diseases associated with perverted behavior where the average lifespan of a male homo is about 45 years? Follow the science, it ain't that complicated. It’s a huge public health issue involving aberrant behavior that taxpayers are forced to pay for. A simple change in aberrant behavior would save taxpayers billions annually. Figure it out -- this is reality, not the Will and Grace show.
