Geez, their logic is so convoluted that it's hard to follow these inarticulate "film noir" artists as they try to explain their masterpiece

That's the idea, shezza. We, the "great unwashed", are to simplistic and bohemian in our thinking to truly understand the nuances and forward thinking of this great masterpiece-to-be. We are not refined, not open-minded enough to appreciate what the underlying meaning of this film is.
