In a selfish and unprofessional move, Kanye West used a Red Cross benefit to benefit his own personal platform Friday night during the NBC Hurricane Katrina Relief program. West's comments were later cut from the program when aired on the West Coast airing.
NBC has issued a statement denouncing West's comments.
The American Red Cross has also issued a statement.
Juicee News has found a video of Kanye West during his rant. [West is also scheduled to speak at another fundraiser next week]
In a disgusting display, West strayed from his prepared script to offer an overflow of hatred from his mouth, taking the spotlight off of the matter at hand, turning the relief program into his own personal soapbox. Whether or not anyone agrees with Mr. West... it was clear that now was not the time to voice such harsh opinions
Just before being cut by NBC executives, West stated: "George Bush doesn't care about black people."
West appeared on-screen with comedian Mike Myers, who was obviously shaken by West's remarks. At one point Myers attempted to put an end to the tirade.
NBC beat him to the punch, cutting to a shot of actor Chris Tucker.
Other comments by West: "They're saying black families are looting and white families are just looking for food...they're giving the (Army) permission to shoot us..."

you are a moron too...
this guy is just as bad as the rest of them, but I agree totally?
WTF?
Does anyone have that picture of the VK with the head turned to the side?
post 53 was quite... interesting.
I missed it.

That should give you the miracle removed post viewer.
It's.. you'll see.
Another great organization, besides the Red Cross (for immediate help) is Habitat for Humanity--www.habitat.org. They provide no-interest loans, homeowners have to put in their own man hours into the house and it's a hand up, not a hand out. Not only does it build homes, but it builds self-esteem. It works.
"He spoke from his own personal opinion and I agree with him all the way."
You agree with what Kayne West said?
I would just like to know what Mr. West plans to do to help everyone that has had family members died, lost their homes and everything they own. Since he feels the need to verbally bash the president and the (army) for taking sooo long to get the relief started, why couldn't he have gotten his ignorant tail down there with all his money to help out. NO, its just another way for him to get 10 minutes of fame and to "rise up" against everyone who is trying to make this easier. Coast Guard and National Guard to name a few. "President Bush doesn't care about black people" is the most ignorant thing I have ever heard in my life. It's almost as if its fashionable to slander these days with no way to back up what you are saying.
To be very honest, and this is coming as a Black woman in this country, one this is for sure, the United States took entirely too long to respond. Whether that be George Bush, FEMA, the Red Cross, those people were down there and needed relief. When the tsumani happened last year, the United States responded within the FIRST 24 hours. These people, these CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA had to wait almost a week; George Bush went to "view" the site Thursday after the hurricane to "assess damage"......what really needs to be assessed when there are feet upon feet of water flooding Bourbon Street? Kanye West's comments may not have been viewed as politically correct due to the timing, however, as a Black person in this country, the PRESIDENT'S response had ME questioning "our" place in this country.
And as far as his comments convincing you to close your purse, shame on YOU.....because if you were going to donate to the CAUSE...there should've been nothing that some 'idiot' said that should have been able to make you waiver in your donation efforts. Did you eventually open your purse?
And finally, if you are tired of every 'black leader' telling you how awful America and white people are, VOTE SOMEONE INTO OFFICE THAT FULLY UNDERSTANDS WE ARE ALL CREATED EQUALLY!
I guess the Coast Guard aircrews who launched as soon as the weather permitted took too long and the brave medical men and women took too long.
In a perfect world everyone would have evacuated. But they didn't. Therein lies the problem.
When the tsumani happened last year, the United States responded within the FIRST 24 hours.
Please go back and re-read the press from Dec 27, 28 & 29. All there was was criticism of the amount of the American response and the time it took to announce it.
George Bush went to "view" the site Thursday after the hurricane to "assess damage"
Fly over to see and assess was done on Wednesday, IIRC.
however, as a Black person in this country, the PRESIDENT'S response had ME questioning "our" place in this country.
President declared 'state of emergency' along the Gulf Coast and urged people to evacuate on Saturday before the storm hit. Pre-positioned emergency supplies prior to Monday landfall.
Only in Utopia is relief able to reach people ten minutes after a disaster. Apart from the water, the biggest problem for the first responders was the armed gangs of looters who came in from out of state to pillage.
Did you eventually open your purse?
Yes we did but I image that it would not be enough for you, neither would our work for 10 years with inner-city youth.
And finally, if you are tired of every 'black leader' telling you how awful America and white people are, VOTE SOMEONE INTO OFFICE THAT FULLY UNDERSTANDS WE ARE ALL CREATED EQUALLY!
Please don't yell, it dampens civil discourse. Perhaps if you run for office and state well and wisely your platform you might be able to effect positive change. Be part of the solution.
*sniff?*
I'm stealing that line. You have so much class....
The look on his face was hysterical. A total WTF?
Hey Hi Heels!! Good to see see, hope all is well.
Just fine. Saw a picture of you the other day in my scrapbook. From the visit to the Reagan museum. Thinking about stirring up another visit since AF1 came in.....
"I would be curious to know how many other people decided NOT to give because of his pronouncments..."
I know you can't see it, but I'm holding my hand up.
I read on another thread that one call center had received 3200 calls, after Mr West spewed 900 people called back and canceled their contribution. My only source is someone on another thread, but it would not surprise me.
Keep us apprised! It's a long haul for us but sometimes miracles happen!
