Somebody needs to ask Mayor Gumbo didn't use these buses to evacuate the poor before the storm, or even just move the buses to high ground so they could have been used this week.

The mayor needs to look in the mirror when assigning blame for this disaster.

This has gone too far. Left and Right are arguing the scenery. What's most important in this entire debacle is to point out where the problems were and then fixing them.

Everything else is a sideshow.

I called Jackson's congressional office and let the man have it......BIG TIME!

Suggested Jackson ought to have gotten on is knees and thanked all the hardworking people who donated millions of dollars for relief.

That Jackson ought to have demanded those shooting at rescuers STOP IMMEDIATELY.

I let the aide know just how outraged I was by racism talk.

And what they decidedly leave out is this;
The NO Mayor is Black...and waited until Saturday.. AFTER President Bush urged them to...to evacuate the city. The locals KNOW the city and had info from National Weather Center on FRIDAY that they were going to be hit hard.
He said there was a plan in place yet he either didn't follow it or it was inadequate to the extreme. My guess is, he didn't follow it since it called for THREE days (with an infastructure IN place) to evacuate everyone. So they are blaming FEMA for not doing enough when communication and roads are non-existant.

The LA governor also did not call up enough National Guard troops, though she had MANY more, to help evacuate BEFORE the storm. Or at LEAST she should have called them ALL up right after the storm hit. That way they would have been in NO when the levees broke.

Believe me, there's plenty of "blame" to go around....and it's not just White REpublicans that are at fault. The fact that they ignore the fact that people of NO looting are shooting at rescuers shows their true colors too.

I assume the president’s going to say he got bad intelligence, Mr. Rangel said, adding that the danger to the levees was clear.

At least W has intelligence, Mr. Rangel

Yes, the danger to the levees was clear. Ragin put everyone into the Superdome. Blanco did nothing.

W declared a state of emergency BEFORE the hurricane hit.

But it's Bush's fault.

Just offer me some cheese to go with my whine. Katrina day was a b*tch, but mom evacuated the beach, our oldest was safe in Tuscaloosa and our youngest here. The house is fine, the yard a mess..typical of a hurricane. Then, right before we lost power we started hearing of the looting and conditions in NO and MS and parts of AL coast. Our oldest can't come home from college this weekend because there isn't any gas to be had, the public schools can't open because there isn't any gas, so our youngest hasn't gone to school since Friday and we're 100+ miles away from where the eye made landfall.

Mom is back home, safe and sound. Our power is back and we have gotten alot of the yard picked up. All in all, we're fine. But I just can't keep hearing about all this anymore. My President is being blamed for something he had no control over, my fellow Americans and Gulf Coasters are burning down their own city, shooting at relief workers and never even had ANY intention of EVER taking care of themselves!

I miss my oldest daughter, I'm sad my youngest is missing a week of her freshman year in HS and I'm ashamed of the behavior of the people from where I was born. And my heart is breaking for all the good people experiencing this devestation that are being ignored while the media is glorifying the worst of us, with few exceptions (local media).

Just hand over that cheese please.

Does anyone have links to stories regarding NO authorities releasing prisoners from local jails? I ran across that on another thread and have found no corroboration of the claim although it sounded credible. The impression I got was that those released were dumped on the street and were not taken by secure transport to safer facilities. This may account for some of the nut-jobs shooting at helicopters, breaking into gun stores, stealing meds from hospitals, and similar raping and pillaging.

If true it sure points the finger at local authorities creating their own "civil disturbances". Or did GW show up and unlock the cells too?

Regards,
GtG

The following comment came from a fellow website; the brothers Moran must not have very happy get-togethers at Thanksgiving or Christmas!

This most excellent blogger is the older brother of ABC reporter Terry Moran, whose partisanship and lack of objectivity with respect to all things Bush has been obvious and disgraceful since day 1 and continues right up to a few hours ago in Mississippi, when Terry Moran attempted to play the "Gotcha/Iraq/Nat.Guard/Slow Response" game with the President today. the dude was a frikking disgrace and every Ldot who can should go to Rick's site and email him their thoughts about terry's performance thus far, which as i said has been a national disgrace and a big reason why so many people dislike and distrust reporters.
